Sports news - Rowing

Mr Andrew Pinelli, Rowing Coordinator

News from the rowing sheds

Our rowers have been very busy over the last two weeks with plenty of on- and off-water activities. Morning training has continued, along with afternoon gym sessions for senior rowers, and the regatta season is really starting to kick off for all of our rowers.

New Town Bay Mini-Regatta

Our Junior Rowers had an informal racing experience on Saturday 9 November out of our own New Town Bay Rowing Sheds. This is an annual event that the Saints Rowing Club jointly organise and gives the junior rowers the opportunity to practise what they have been doing during training. It is an informal event, with participation and enjoyment the key objectives.

The Mini-Regatta also gave us the opportunity to do some much-needed fundraising for the Club. A huge thank you to all of our parents and friends who donated items to make our fundraising efforts a great success. We were very fortunate to receive donations of soft drinks (Bronwyn Mackey) along with coffee beans and cups (Simon Crealey), which contributed greatly to our successful fundraising. Thank you also to Buckingham Rowing Club for allowing us to use the coffee machine and the function centre area.

Junior Regatta (South)

Last weekend, our junior rowers (U13, U14 and U15) headed south to the Franklin River. For many of our rowers, this was their first regatta and also their first time at the Franklin. We were fortunate to have favourable weather conditions for most of the day, but the Franklin is renowned for offering difficult conditions even for the most experienced rowers.

A big thank you to our senior and U16 rowers who made themselves available to lend their experienced hands to our novice rowers. Their support on and off the water was invaluable. Congratulations to all of our coaches for preparing our young rowers so well for the regatta. As you can see from the results below, our rowers performed very well. Thank you also to all of our parents for their support on the day with unloading/loading boats and carrying oars and boats to and from the water.
