Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am sure you can feel Winter has set in, with the cold wind and rain upon us. Please encourage your children to wear a jacket whilst outside and remember name them very clearly so they can be returned if they are lost and get found.

Introducing Mr Atkins (Music Teacher):

I am very pleased to welcome Mr Atkins, who started with us a few weeks ago as our music teacher. He replaced Mr MacKay, who was with us for a very short time, unfortunately. He is getting to know the children and our school and by all accounts, the children are enjoying their musical experiences. Unfortunately, due to the short time he has been with us, he has not been able to accurately assess their musical knowledge, so the student reports will not have a score for music this semester.

Student Reports Semester 1:

This semester’s student reports are currently being finalised and will be ready for distribution on Tuesday 1st July. Please look out for these in your children’s bags. If you require a second copy to be collected or sent, please reach out to the office or your child’s teacher via Class Dojo and we will ensure that all relevant people in your child’s life receive a copy.

Parent teacher Interviews:

You should have received a notice about how to book these very important meetings, scheduled for Thursday 3rd July from 2.00 – 6.30. If you have not received this, please check Class Dojo or contact the office for help.

Multicultural Diversity and Inclusion:

At Melton West PS we value the diversity of culture, ethnicity, and faith of all our students. We are proud of our diversity, and everyone is welcome at our school. Celebrating the diversity of our community makes us stronger, kinder and more innovative. We are committed to making sure that students from all backgrounds feel accepted, supported and able to learn. We teach all students according to our school values and teach the respectful relationships framework. This includes education around diversity and inclusion. To achieve our values and aims, everyone at Melton West PS plays an important role. Two of our school values are Kindness and Respect. Treating everyone with kindness and respecting everyone’s differences is an important way to interact and remembering to use these values in everything we do. To help us make Melton West PS a place where everyone feels welcome, respected and supported, we encourage you to also speak to your child about these values, as well as the importance of:

  • understanding that we celebrate diversity and multicultural inclusion
  • understanding the importance of everyone at school being treated with respect.

For more information, please see Racism: talking with children and teens, Raising Children Network. We expect families to also display our school values when dealing with other members of our school community.

Prep Enrolments 2026 Open:

If you or somebody you know has a child turning 5 before 30th April 2026 they are eligible to attend school in 2026. All children have a guaranteed place in their local school, and some schools, like ours, can accept enrolments outside their designated area. If you feel they are ready to start school next year and would like to find out more about what we have to offer, please call the office to join one of our small group tour. These are fortnightly on a Wednesday from 9.30am or monthly in the evening at 6.00pm. To help with organising staff and preparing for an effective transition program, enrolments should be received by 25th July 2025.

School Saving Bonus (SSB):

Families can continue to use SSB funds until Monday 30 June 2025 to buy textbooks or uniforms, or to allocate funds to school activities using the parent/carer online system.

The parent/carer online system will close at 11:59pm on 30 June 2025. Any unused online supplier vouchers will expire, and all unspent SSB funds will revert to a school activities credit held against the family account for each student. These balances are expected in CASES21 in early August 2025.  This means between June 30th and August 2025 parents/carers will NOT be able to allocate or use their SSB for school activities.
