P4C Symposium in Singapore

Dates: 13–14 July 2026

Venue: National Institute of Education (NIE)1 Nanyang Walk Singapore 637616 (Located within Nanyang Technological University – NTU Singapore)

1. Purpose and Aims

This Symposium aims to introduce and deepen educators’ understanding of Philosophy for Children (P4C) as a key pedagogy for nurturing critical, creative, collaborative, and caring thinking in students. Specifically, the Symposium seeks to:

  1. Build educators’ capacity to facilitate philosophical inquiry and dialogue.
  2. Strengthen inquiry-based, student-centred pedagogies aligned with 21st Century Competencies.
  3. Provide practical classroom strategies for P4C implementation across subject disciplines.
  4. Grow a sustainable community of practice among educators passionate about thinking and learning.

2. Target Audience

The Symposium is intended for:

  • Primary and Secondary School Teachers
  • Subject Heads and Heads of Department (HODs)
  • Teacher Leaders and School Leaders
  • Institute of Technical Education (ITE) lecturers
  • NIE educators

3. Recommended Accommodation and Transportation

A bus will be arranged to pick up participants from the designated hotel for both days of the Symposium and return them to the hotel at the end of each day.

Participants who choose to stay at other accommodations may either travel to the designated hotel to join the bus pickup or make their own way directly to the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Please note that the journey from the city to NIE, NTU is relatively long, and participants are advised to plan their travel accordingly.

Ways You Can Contribute

There are several ways in which you may support the Symposium:

  • Keynote Speaker Theme: AI Meets P4C: Critical Thinking, Ethics, and Education
  • Paper Presentation Theme: AI Meets P4C or related topics
  • Workshop Facilitator Workshops on themes related to AI and P4C are welcome.

We are particularly looking for papers and workshops that clearly link to:

  • Philosophy for Children (P4C)
  • Children as Philosophers
  • Community of Inquiry

We also welcome:

  • Reports from regional contexts on P4C activities, projects, and training initiatives
  • Contributions or agenda items for the FAPSA AGM, which will be held during the Philosophers’ Walk on Saturday. If you have items to raise, please include them in the document as well.
