Learn what opportunities our students have been taking on

Year 7 Drama

Year 7 Drama students have been learning about melodrama. For their assessment task, they worked in groups to write a short story that teaches the audience a moral lesson, such as honest vs. dishonest. They then created a script, organised costumes and props, and finally performed the story with exaggerated body actions and facial expressions. Well done everyone!

Year 9 Social Innovators Program

Year 9 students recently participated in the Social Innovators Program, in partnership with Ballarat Tech School and Crazy Ideas College. Students worked in groups to develop a business idea, and then pitched their idea to a panel of local community members.

What's on in Science!

In Year 7 Science, students have been completing their assessment task on mixture separation. Students have worked to develop their own materials, methodology and collect results to present on a scientific poster. Over the term, students have learnt about a variety of separation techniques including: distillation, decanting, evaporation, filtration and chromatography.

Year 11 students completed a kidney dissection to consolidate their learnings on the excretory system. Students have explored all about the kidneys including their role in maintaining water homeostasis and the structure of the nephron for filtration.

Year 12 students finished Unit 3 by exploring factors impacting the rates of photosynthesis and cellular respiration such as light, carbon dioxide concentration and glucose.

Exploring Stem!

St Brigid’s College recently had the privilege of hosting Steve, from Fizzics Education, for an engaging session exploring STEM careers within the defence industry.

Students were captivated by hands-on demonstrations that included vortex rings, Bernoulli bags, and the dramatic whoosh bottle, which showcased the principles of combustion and propulsion.

The highlight of the day was the AI robot dog, who not only impressed the audience with his dance moves but also delighted students by taking the time to shake their hands!

What's on in Foods!

Our Foods room has been alive this week! Mrs Lannen's Year 10 class got to create their own cafe style breakfast, Year 7 students made spaghetti bolognese, and Year 8/9 students made 'nanaimo bars', a delicious Canadian dessert.

Next term, Year 7 students will swap over their electives and a new group of students will have the chance to learn new skills and get creative in the kitchen! These students will be especially lucky as they will be the first cohort to use our brand-new Food Tech space, opening in Term 3 as part of the North Wing Refurbishment.
