Principal's Report

Dear families,
This will be the last newsletter for the semester. As we have come to the end of another semester we have much to celebrate. Stage One of our refurbishment is on schedule and students should have full access to the new facilities from Week 2 of next term. This will include a new Student Café which we are running a competition among the students to suggest a name. Once we have full access to the Café, we will be introducing a Breakfast Club in the mornings at which students who have not had the opportunity to access breakfast will be offered free cereal and toast. If any parents / grandparents or carers would like to be involved in this in some capacity, please contact our reception on
Ph 5382 3545.
Reports for Semester One will be available to view via PAM from Thursday afternoon, 3 July. I encourage families to discuss the performance of your child with them and to enter into dialogue with them about their interests and goals. I also suggest that you communicate to their teachers if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s achievements. Next Friday will be a casual clothes day with a gold coin donation to the SRC’s chosen charity. Students may be collected from lunchtime and country bus travellers will be supervised until 2.20pm when the buses will depart. The Nhill and Murtoa school buses will depart at 1.30pm. The first day of Term 2 is Monday 21 July.
I would like to congratulate the following students who represented our College in an online eSports competition against other schools across Australia. Darcy Taylor, Alan Lulu Kuriakose, Jackson Tuohey, Finn O'Loughlin, Riley O'Loughlin and Riley Watson. Our team came in second overall. Why do we encourage students to take up eSports ? Esports have become a multimillion dollar international competition where people are making a career out of playing professionally. Students work as a team or compete solo to strategise, communicate, and compete – all within a structured and cybersafe environment. These aren’t just games – they’re opportunities to foster collaboration, discipline and digital literacy among your students.
Why Schools Are Getting Involved
✔️ Boost Student Engagement – Esports excites students who don’t always connect through traditional sports or extracurriculars.
✔️ Foster Team Culture – Students build real teamwork and communication skills in pressure-based environments.
✔️ Develop 21st Century Skills – Resilience, leadership, problem-solving and digital fluency.✔️ Safe and Structured – Every student is verified. All activity is monitored. Your staff remain in control.
At the end of any semester, adjustments for staffing is normally required. I would like to wish Mr George Walker best wishes as he leaves our community to travel and work throughout Europe – I admire his spirit of adventure and I know many students and staff will miss George. Ms Antonia Baviello will also take Long Service Leave for all of Semester Two and we wish Antonia all the best while on leave. I am pleased to announce that St Brigid’s remains a destination school for teachers and support staff and can announce that we offered contracts to the following staff for Semester Two: Ms Helena Croser, Mrs Catherine Huisman and we have Mrs Vicki Thomas (returning). I know the students will offer these new staff a warm welcome.
I would like to wish all families and members of the St Brigid’s community a warm and safe holiday and encourage you to spend some time together building even stronger relationships.
Stay safe,
Gerard
