Co-curricular - Senior Sport

I would like to start this week’s article by thanking all the students, parents/carers and all staff for all of their efforts towards SPC Sport this semester. It has been an incredible year so far and many more fantastic opportunities to come.

Football

Another successful weekend of Football with the First XI continuing their winning ways with a five goal to nil win over St Andrew’s Cathedral School’s First XI. Three out of our four A teams were successful, and a shout-out to the U14 age group, who were our most successful age group over the weekend with six wins and one draw.

Rugby

In what is always a tough round of Rugby out at Oakhill College, there were so many clear positives of the day which demonstrate all the hard work being put in by everybody involved in the SPC Rugby Program. Five games were decided by eight points or less and three SPC teams were victorious. Congratulations to the 13C, 14A and Fifth XV who came out on top of their Oakhill rivals.

Tennis

It was a tough day of Tennis for SPC on Saturday, as our players braved the cold to compete. The First IV drew with Oakhill and Divisions 8 and 10 were both successful against Oxley College. The Fourth IV had a very narrow loss to St Andrew’s Cathedral School’s Third IV with only one game separating the two teams. Thank you to all involved in SPC Tennis thus far this season.

ISA/CAS Crossover

Our Rugby teams have delivered an outstanding season of results in the ISA competition this term. The performance of the 1st XV, 2nd XV and all As teams has secured SPC a place in the top three ISA schools at the end of the regular season. This impressive achievement means we now progress to the crossover stage, where we’ll face the top three CAS schools. The first three rounds of Term 3 are likely to be against Waverley College, Barker College, and Knox Grammar School. Two of these games will be home fixtures, with the third to be hosted by the CAS school. More details to come.

ISA Semi Finals – Bathurst 16 August

This year, for the first time, ISA will run a semifinal weekend in Bathurst on Saturday 16 August. Based on the information received from ISA, all our teams will have a fixture in Bathurst, except for the 13 D who unfortunately will end their season the week before. Please refer to the document below to see the draw for the day and if you are interested in the catching the bus please use the link below.

Team of the Week

15B Football

A true underdog story, the 15B team play in Division 1 for their age group with other school A teams and have been building very nicely throughout the season. Fresh off their first win of the season, Round 7 appeared to be their biggest challenge yet as they were scheduled to take on the top of the table, Oakhill College’s15As. Being the last round of the term, some boys were away with their families enjoying an early start to the school holidays, some boys were injured and a couple of players had moved up to the As, resulting in the team having only nine players available. To top it all off, their coach was unavailable and Mr Boggs had to put his 50%-win rate as a football coach on the line as he stepped in to coach an SPC Football team for the third time in his career and life.

Despite the many obstacles thrown their way, those still available arrived at Oakhill College with a very positive attitude. It was clear from the warmup that the entire team was ready to rip in and represent the College to the best of their ability. An early goal build belief and the energy and effort exerted from each player in the team grew as the contest continued. It did not take long for Oakhill College to equal the score and not long after that, they took the lead. Lucas Nankivell had heard that his mates were playing short, so as soon as his 15E game concluded, he sprinted over to join the team making it an 11 vs 10 game. This boosted the team’s energy to another level. The 15B team scored an early equaliser in the second half and dared to dream of stealing one from the competition front runners.

With around 10 minutes left in the game, Oakhill College took a 3 – 2 lead, and all the experts thought it was over. No one would have blamed the 15B team if they faded away and were just happy with their effort, but that is not what the 15B are made of. They kept working hard and in the final kick of the game, Lucas Sacco scored his second goal of the game to equal the scores at three all to finish. Well done boys, your attitude, effort, resilience and camaraderie were truly fantastic and must be celebrated.

House Athletics Carnival

Last Thursday was the 2025 House and Age Championship Athletics Carnival. School spirit was at an all-time high as boys competed with passion and pride in themselves, their House and SPC in general. Thank you so much to all the staff for their hard work to make the day a success. Please see below the revised and updated results of the day. Huge congratulations to William Allen of Year 12 who set a new Opens Discuss Record of 36.95M, breaking Mark Nawaqanitawase’s 2018 record of 36.55m. Congratulations to the Rice House.
