Year 3/4 News

Learning Centre Two
It has definitely been a hectic and busy term all round for the 3/4 team. As we come to the close of Term Two, we are filled with pride at the accomplishments, growth, and memories made throughout the past few months. It has been an exciting first half of the school year, with students engaging in new learning experiences, making new friends, and embracing challenges with enthusiasm. From learning group activities to extracurricular events, our students have shown incredible dedication and curiosity.
Highlights of the term include Year Four students’ participation in the Sacrament of the Eucharist, our visit to ACMI and our upcoming camp for Year 4.
Learning Conversations
Through Learning Conversations are an opportunity to further build partnerships between home & school. Communication is strengthened between school and home. Students are able to share their learning with their parents and teachers are able to celebrate the students learning journey so far as well as identify and address specific needs to work on for Semester 2.

Year 3
Literacy
Our Year 3's have been continuing to read through different persuasive picture story books. They have used these to identify different persuasive topics and arguments for and against within the text. The students have been learning how to plan and structure a persuasive piece of writing. They have had to pick their own topic and persuade the reader on their point of view using arguments for or against their topic.
Religion
In Religious Education, Year Three students have been focusing on Discipleship, deepening their understanding of how the canonized Saints have shown discipleship through their own lives. They researched a Saint of choice and created a powerpoint presentation highlighting how their saint showed discipleship.
Numeracy
We have continued learning about algorithms to identify and create number Patterns. They have been learning about the connections between addition and subtraction with double digit numbers. They have moved into working being able to apply addition and subtraction knowledge to work out worded problems.
Year 4
Religion
In Religious Education, Year Four students have been learning about Prophets like Daniel, Jonah and Miriram, Moses’ sister. We have been looking at and examining different scripture passages related to the prophets. We have also been learning about modern day prophets like Princess Diana,Martin Luther King Jr, and Pope Francis. The students created character maps and portraits for each of the different prophets. They selected the prophet that was the most interesting to them and chose to either create a shield, social media post or interview about that prophet.
Literacy
Over the last few weeks the year 4 students have been looking at and studying different print and video advertisements. They have been learning how to give a solid opinion using Claim, Evidence and Reason to justify their opinion about different topics. We read a book called ‘’ The Mess we Made’; the book is about people leaving piles of rubbish everywhere around the city and around the beach. The students created environmental ads to persuade people to look after the planet better.
The students also read the book 'The all New Orange 340', which is about a boy Harvey who wanted to buy this all new but useless toy. They enjoyed inventing their own useless object, which then they had to try and pitch to each other.
Numeracy
Over the past few weeks students had fun learning about commutive and equivalent addition and subtraction equations. They explored different strategies such as number lines,scales and fact families.
Year 3&4
Inquiry
In Inquiry, Year Three and Four students have been working on presenting their media arts cultural story. They have been creating a media arts piece using technology of their own cultural story. They have enjoyed learning about different cultural stories and the messages they have within them.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing we have been unpacking the value of Resilience by identifying the Five things we can control:
- Our Attitude
- Our Words
- Our Actions
- Our Manners
- Our Effort
We listened to the story 😡Henry's Big Angry Feelings and created a list of self regulation strategies. When I'm Angry I can...
- Drink water
- Have some time out
- Walk away
- Take slow deep breaths
- Ask for help
- Count to ten

Students bring their laptops and headphones to school each day. Please make sure these are fully charged.
