Learning Centre Three
The end of the term has snuck up quickly with only a week to go. The students have justreached just over 80 days of school and are excited to reach their goal of 100 days! It hasbeen a great term and we are so proud of their learning progress. We have a lot to lookforward to in term 3.
Phonics
We have continued to read the story Milo’s Birthday Surprise and have met more of Milo’s friends – Queenie Quail, Zoe Zebra, Jack Jellyfish and Uncle Upton. It has been great to see the students become more confident in the Chitter Chatter Chant where we remember Milo’s friends and the sounds the letters make. We have been practicing syllables with a ‘Robot walk’ for them to identify how many beats. The students are displaying more knowledge and understanding in recognising sounds. They have been sound detectives by listening to a beginning sound carefully and respond by an action if they hear it, this has been successful in their learning the sound of the day.
The books your child has read in class are also available online - just scan the QR code inside their reading journal to access a digital version. This week, your child will continue to bring home their reading journal and a new decodable book in their book bag. We encourage you to read with your child each night and return the decodable book, reading diary and bag every Thursday. A new book will be sent home each Friday. We are keeping track of the amazing reading your child has been reading and want to say a big congratulations to the following students for completing 25 nights of reading!

Literacy
Last week in Literacy we read the story ‘Guff’ by Aaron Blabey about a child who loves their toy. The students made a little book based on their favourite toy including who their toy is, what they are, what they like to do together and why they love them. In their writing they practised the skill of using capital letters and included an adjective in their writing. This week we read 'Where’s My Teddy?’ by Jez Alborough. Amongst writing about losing a toy, being surprised and how it made them feel, they practising the skill of speaking clearly in front of their peers. The students got to share a picture of themselves with their favourite toy and talk about what it is and why it is special to them. This sparked questions from the students which encouraged further speaking skills in front of an audience.
Maths
Last week the students practised reading and writing numerals up to 20. They practised this skill by making an ice-cream tower on a cone, writing the numeral that represents the collection and making a dinosaur link tail. This week the focus was identifying ‘one more’ to a sequence through a game of 'I have 0, who has 1 more' all the way up to 20. They have also been practising learning about a ‘tens frame’ and MAB blocks to help with ordering numbers and identifying smaller and bigger numbers.
Religion
Over the past two weeks the students have been learning about Baptism. Last week they learnt about the story of the Baptism of Jesus, the events that took place, and the meaning of Baptism. This week the students have been learning about how Baptism is a rite or
ceremony performed by most Christian churches and that the person being baptised becomes a follower of Jesus. The students also explored who would be involved at a Baptism and the important role that they play.
Inquiry
For the past two weeks the students have been busy creating their Media artwork project of underwater sea creatures out of different materials. They have been drawing, cutting and pasting water, seaweed, fish, crabs, bubbles and sand. Their creative skills shined as they made decisions and displayed their own ideas of how they wanted to present their project. Overall, we were truly impressed with the final piece and they got to do a gallery walk and observe each learning group’s underwater project.
Upcoming Events
Next term is a shorter term, but is packed full of excitement!
In week 3, students will celebrate 100 days of school. We encourage students to dress up as how they imagine themselves when they are 100-years-old. The day will include many fun and exciting activities to highlight this important milestone in their learning journey. More information will be sent home to families in coming weeks.
