This Week At OOPS

This week, the Year 1 and 2 students stepped back in time to take part in an exciting Olden Days experience. We were so impressed by the level of effort families and students put in to dress up for the experience!
In the kitchen, students had the chance to make their own butter and cook damper, just like in the past. They watched short documentaries to explore how things have changed over time, including video games, clothing, and schooling. A special highlight was visiting Miss Males' strict classroom, where they experienced what school might have been like many years ago. The students also enjoyed playing traditional games and investigating objects from the past.
A big thank you to all the wonderful family helpers who supported the damper sessions; the students had a fantastic time and learned so much!
In Kitchen Garden, we have completed our Bush Tucker unit. The students are making modern day recipes with traditional indigenous ingredients (linked to inquiry). Rotation 1 they were making Kangaroo and beef meatballs. In rotation 2 they made Lemon Myrtle cookies and cakes. Such a great way to embed our learning of Australia’s First People’s culture and learning new skills along the way.
A massive thank you to our helpers this term. We couldn’t run the program without you all!
You can find the recipes for all of these delicious treats in the Kitchen Garden section of the newsletter.
On Tuesday, our Year 3/4 students showed off their learning over Term 2 to the Year 1/2s! The students displayed their poster, artefact and statement of intent. It was a wonderful way to wrap up our inquiry unit, showcasing information about our First Nations history, artefacts inspired from the museum excursion and communicating their applied knowledge.
Term 2 Victorian High-Ability Program (VHAP) English: The Power of the Pen
Over Term 2, our Year 5/6 VHAP English students took part in ‘The Power of the Pen’, an advanced writing program designed to challenge and inspire talented young writers. Each student selected a personal writing snapshot that best showcased their growth and creativity, along with a short explanation of why it stood out to them. They also reflected on what they gained from the program — from experimenting with new genres and styles to building confidence in their unique writer’s voice. We’re incredibly proud of the insightful and imaginative pieces they’ve produced so far!
