17th June is Eat Your Veggies Day

Australian Dietary Guidelines promote everyone to eat at least 2 pieces of fruit and 5 servings of vegetables a day.

As Australian – we aren’t so good at achieving this.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, only 6.5% of adults and 2.5% of children eat 5 servings of veggies a day.

So here are some tips to adding some more vegetables into your day.

  • Add Carrots to your fruit bowl.
  • Mix some grated carrot or zucchini or both into your bolognaise sauce.
  • Add tinned brown lentils into your taco meat. Along with increasing your vegetable intake, you will also have more meat to go around and it still tastes just like normal taco meat.
  • Frozen vegetables are just as nutritious as fresh veggies. Add them to your casseroles or soups.
  • Add some spinach to your toasted ham and cheese sangs.
  • Add a zucchini or pumpkin layer into your lasagna.
  • Pack some dip with carrot and celery sticks.
  • Add some canned or frozen peas and corn to your Cup-A-Soups – they go really nicely with cream of chicken.

Of course, there is so many other ways to add vegetables to your normal food. If you check out good old Google – you will find millions more.

SO HAPPY ‘EAT YOUR VEGETABLES DAY’
