Level 3 & 4

Week 10, Term 2

🌱 QUEEN VIC MARKET EXCURSION - POSTPONED

Our Queen Victoria Market excursion is next week!!. The details of the excursion will remain the same, and updated details will be shared with families closer to the date. As this is a city-based excursion involving public transport, we will once again be seeking the generous support of parent volunteers to help maintain a safe adult-to-student ratio. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

🌱 LITERACY

This week in Reading, students will start the first chapter of Kensuke's Kingdom and begin making predictions on what this story might be about. They will read the first chapter closely and respond to comprehension questions to deepen their understanding. There will also be a vocabulary and grammar focus, with an emphasis on exploring word meanings in context.

In Writing, students will begin exploring procedural writing. They will analyse example texts to identify key procedural elements. Students will also take part in small group recreations of their procedural texts. These activities will help them prepare to plan and draft their own procedural pieces.

To support your child at home, you could ask them to retell the main events of Kenuke's Kingdom and discuss how the story might progress, helping to reinforce their understanding of the plot. You might also talk about procedural texts such as recipes, instructions for Lego or board games etc, using procedural language language.

In addition to this, you can also give opportunity for your child to practice touch typing with a keyboard or laptop at home.

🌱 NUMERACY

In Numeracy this week, students will build their understanding of multiplicative thinking and develop their multiplication and division understanding. They will explore the connection between multiplication and division. Additionally, students will complete some standardised assessments to check for their long-term understanding of key concepts.

At home, you can support your child by practising basic multiplication and division facts together and encouraging them to explain how the two operations are connected. Please also encourage your child to work on Mathletics.

🌱 CBL

In CBL this week, students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of our new big idea of Change, exploring how things have changed over time, specifically in and around our school.

At home, you could support your child by discussing what school was like for you.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.

🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.

🌱 We are currently missing a number of books from the Library. Can you please help your child to check if any overdue Library books are hiding with them at home.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA

Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
