Welcome Back to Term 3

Welcome back to Term 3. Hoping everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break.  It has been lovely to see the fresh smiling faces of our students, parents and teachers, ready for a busy and exciting term of learning.

Our Big Idea of Change will see students learning about the history of Wonga Park leading up to our 130th celebrations, there will be our amazing production of Matilda, Prep – 2 Gymnastics, Grade 4 Camp to Phillip Island, Grade 5/6 Adolescent Health, 100 Days of School celebration for our preps, Book Week, our Father’s Day Breakfast, Junior and Senior Hooptime and the Athletics Sports.  So much happening in a 9-week term!

School Review

Another important process that is happening this term is our School Review.  Every four years, schools undertake a formal School Review to reflect on our practices and plan for the future.  The process involves hearing the voices of our staff, students and families - helping us understand what is working well and where we can continue to grow and improve.  Next Monday we will be holding some parent and student forums which will be facilitated by Dave Wilkins, an educational consultant who has worked with our school over many years.  Details of the times for the forums will be communicated shortly.

Parents are also invited to complete a survey covering various aspects of our school, the community and learning.  There is the option to complete a hard copy of the survey or use the QR code to access the survey online. We appreciate and value your input!  An email with the QR code for the survey has been sent to all families today. Families can also collect a hard copy at this week’s parent teacher interviews or there are copies available at the office.  Please contact the office if you would like a copy sent home with your child.

Ramp Upgrade

Over the next few weeks you will see some construction taking place in different parts of the school. The Department of Education are upgrading ramps in all schools to ensure they comply with building regulations. Apologies for any inconvenience caused whilst the works are underway.

Staffing Update

We would like to warmly welcome Charlotte Read who will be taking over as the classroom teacher in 2B and Mrs Kerry Lucas, who is our new AUSLAN teacher for second semester.   We are very excited to have Charlotte and Kerry join our Wonga Park team.

Next week we will be farewelling our much-loved Natalia Dimitriou who begins her maternity leave while she awaits the arrival of Baby Dimitriou!  We thank Nat for her wonderful contribution to Wonga Park as a beautiful Prep teacher who nurtured so many of our youngest students in their first year of school.  Nat will be greatly missed by students, families and colleagues. Best wishes to you and Georgio at this very special time!

We also warmly welcome Breanna Jarchow and Michele Clements who have joined our ES team this week. Sadly, we farewelled Jess Crea, one of our ES staff this week.  Wishing Jess all the very best in her new secondary school ES role.

Stay warm as we navigate some chilly, wet days.

Warm regards

Julie

Re: Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
