Barwon Junior Debating Competition

On Wednesday 4th June, our two Grade 6 Debating teams welcomed Christian College Surf Coast and Geelong Grammar to our school for the first round of the Barwon Junior Debating Competition.

The topic was That Public Transport Should Be Free. Chilwell A (Humza, Alexia, Landon and Annabeth) argued for the affirmative against Christian College and Chilwell B (Bonny, Sienna, Isla and Olivia) argued for the negative against Geelong Grammar.

They were high quality debates, with compelling arguments and rebuttals from each side. Chilwell won both debates, with Landon and Isla winning Best Speaker awards.

Well done to all our debaters, who have put in many hours of preparation and practise.

We are now focussed on round two later this month, where the topic is That All Social Media Platforms Should Have an Age Limit for Use, hosted by Bellbrae Primary School.

Grade 3/4 Inquiry Excursion

Friday 6th June saw the Grade 3s and 4s head into Geelong for a walking excursion to reinforce our History Inquiry learning this term. Please enjoy a collection of photos and writing pieces from students reflecting on the wonderful day.

3JS wrote some snapshot reflections from the day:

It was excursion time and we walked to the Art Gallery. We walked in there and there were paintings. There was a famous artist who drew in Europe. He drew Geelong and he brought it to Australia! Eleanor 3JS

On Friday the 6th of June, we had the best excursion ever! I think, out of the Art Gallery, the Waterfront, Library and the Wool Museum, my favourite was the Wool Museum. I was so fascinated by how sticky the dirty sheep wool was. Did you know? The most sheep shorn in one day was 321 - without an electric shearer! Charlie B 3JS

On Friday, the sixth of June, we went to the Art Gallery, Heritage Centre, Waterfront and the Wool Museum. The Wool Museum was surely the best because the guided tour told us all about how people basically used to live after working as a shearer, and we could even touch the sheep wool. She also told us that the world record for using normal shears for cutting sheep was 321 (approximately 320) and the ones for electric shears was 720 sheep! Jayden 3JS

2 weeks ago, we went to the Wool Museum and also a lot of other places. I was next to Enrique when I entered. At the Wool Museum I went into the room for kids. I found out that the most expensive wool that they sold was 1 million dollars! But then we had to move on to the wool touching. The lady told us that it was waterproof and also it was used for sunscreen! I was very surprised. 𝓘 𝓱𝓪𝓭 𝓪𝓵𝓸𝓽 𝓸𝓯 𝓯𝓾𝓷 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜𝕤 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘 . Isabella 3JS
