In Week 8, Senior Visual Art students visited the Museum of Brisbane to view two exhibitions, “New Light: Photography Now and Then”, a display of photography spanning 1890 to 2024 and “Precious”, an exhibition of thousands of collectables, keepsakes and curiosities from over 30 public and private collections. They also visited the Gallery of Modern Art to view the Creative Generation Excellence in Visual Art Awards to be inspired by exceptional Senior Visual Artworks selected from around the state from 2024.
The final stop for the day was at Reverse Garbage to find discarded items and objects for use in their current assessment, for Year 11s an experimental folio for the unit, “Art as Code” and the Year 12 students’ final internal assessments for their unit, “Art as Alternate”. Reverse Garbage is an eco arts and re-use co-operative specialising in the collection of clean industrial discards and high quality materials. We look forward to seeing how the students will use these materials in their artworks, all of which will be on display in the Tower Art Show in September and the Graduate Arts exhibition at the start of Term 4. More details about these events will follow.
In Art Club this term, students have been creating Rokkaku Dako (Japanese Fighter Kites). In trialling these, a little more wind on the day would have been beneficial but we managed to get them off the ground for a short “flight”. Art Club recommences in Term 3 (Week 2), Tuesday afternoons in Room A03 from 3:30pm – 4:30pm. All are welcome. Please email Ms Larsen larsenc@marash.qld.edu.au for more details.
We congratulate Artwork of the Month, winner Vincent Butten in Year 10 for his acrylic on board painting of rugged mountain terrain, produced as part of his current unit of work, which explores the natural scape.
