Gospel Reflection

Gospel from feast of Most Holy Trinity, 15 June - John 16:12-15 (JB)

Jesus said to his disciples:

'I still have many things to say to you

but they would be too much for you now.

But when the Spirit of truth comes

he will lead you to the complete truth,

since he will not be speaking as from himself

but will say only what he has learnt;

and he will tell you of the things to come.

He will glorify me

since all he tells you

will be taken from what is mine.

Everything the Father has is mine;

that is why I said:

All he tells you

will be taken from what is mine.'

Sunday’s Feast of the Most Holy Trinity reminds us that we express our belief in a Triune God every time we begin and end prayer with the Sign of the Cross: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. We understand God as always in relationship; with God’s self, with life, with us. We witness to God’s outpouring of love most profoundly in Jesus, risen and present through the power of the Spirit. We see it—can imagine it—in the irresistible force of life all around us. We experience it in life which recovers from disaster, in people who find hope amidst chaos and death.

This quality of life-energy, quality of relationship, of love moving throughout days… that’s what we aim for and hope to experience with each other in our daily lives, at home and at school. Yet as we head towards the end of term, many of us are feeling the workload intensify. We’re feeling tired. Our students and staff are ready for a much-deserved rest. So, we ask our relational, loving God to give us energy to continue, step-by-step, day-by-day. To help us walk on together as pilgrims of hope in a Spirit of truth.

We pray:

+ Triune God,

Who dances in love with all life:

Father-Son-Spirit.

Send your Spirit of truth to dwell with us, we pray.

Guide us to dwell in the truth and with all that is good and just.

Help us to work honourably and diligently,

To support and lift each other up through hard times.

Open our hearts to find joy today and every day,

And in the promise of new life in you.

Mary our good mother – pray for us

St Marcellin Champagnat – pray for us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop – pray for us

And let us always remember – to pray for one another

Amen.+

Romero Centre

Once a month on a Tuesday afternoon, a group of Marist senior students with two staff members are visiting the Romero Centre in Dutton Park. This outreach is an opportunity for our students to offer practical assistance to the asylum seekers to visit the centre. Whether it's providing IT support or weeding the gardening, the time in the centre is well-spent. The experience also provides the students some insight into the realities faced by asylum seekers in our community. We look forward to continuing the visits to the Romero Centre for the remain of the 2025 school year.

The Year 6s have generously started collecting some groceries to help fill the pantry at the Romero Centre. Thank you to our Primary students!

2025 Timor-Leste Immersion

On Tuesday evening, 17 June, our Timor-Leste immersion students and staff will be commissioned during a special liturgy. The students, with staff members Kathryn Badini and Jye Davies, are heading off on Wednesday 25 June for what will be an incredible experience of encounter with our Timorese neighbours. The group will spend time in Dili and in particular with Marist and other communities in the Baucau district to the east of Dili. In keeping with this year’s theme of Pilgrims of Hope, we will send our pilgrims forth with hope in our hearts just as they will board their flights with hope and joy… and maybe a whole mix of other feelings! The students are preparing well for the journey. We look forward to sharing news of their experiences early next term.

St Vincent De Paul Sleepout

This Friday, 32 Students and 9 Staff are participating in the St Vincent De Paul Sleepout at the college. The St Vincent De Paul Sleepout aims to raise awareness around the harsh realities of homelessness.

The night will involve Vinnies Youth staff and volunteers running workshops and activities around homelessness and poverty with the participants. We will share a meal of warm soup and dinner rolls for the night. The night will conclude with a brief liturgy and a time to reflect in the college chapel.

The sleeping-out aspect of the night involves the students sleeping outside in the CLE undercroft on nothing but a piece of cardboard to sleep on. The students will share their experiences and insights with the college community after the night.

Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp 2025

Marist College Ashgrove will once again host the Sony Foundation Children’s Holiday Camp here at the College from 20–22 September 2025. This incredible program provides children with special needs the opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled three-day camp at no cost to their families, while also giving senior students from Marist College Ashgrove and Mount Alvernia College the chance to take on a rewarding leadership and service role.

If you would like to donate to this year’s Marist Sony Foundation Camp please click HERE. All donations over $2 are tax deductible – perfect with the end of financial year nearly upon us!

To easily transport our campers around the college during the camp, we are reaching out to our community to see if anyone has a 4-seater golf cart they can lend us for the duration of the camp. If this is YOU… please reach out to Camp Coordinator Jenna Harding hardingj@marash.qld.edu.au to arrange.

Alternatively, if you own a business that would like to be involved in our camp, we would love to hear from you! Please email sony@marash.qld.edu.au
