Discover Microtechnology: Griffith University

Dates: Wednesday 2 July, 9 July, 24 September or 1 October

Time: 11:00am - 12:30pm (during QLD school holidays)

Location: Griffith University, Nathan Campus (Brisbane South)

Who it's for: Year 10-12 students in small groups of 5-15

Note: Students must be able to get to and from campus independently.

Ever wondered how microchips are made or what it's like to work in a top research lab? This is your chance to go behind the scenes at the Queensland Microtechnology Facility (QMF) - a place where future tech is being created right now.

Here's what you'll do:

• Hear from real scientists and engineers working on world-leading microtechnology
• Learn how microchips are made - powering everything from medical devices to electric cars
•  Suit up in full cleanroom gear and enter a cutting-edge microfabrication lab
• Use high-powered microscopes to inspect real microdevices made on site

Congratulations to Mason Irving – School-Based Apprenticeship Success!

We are delighted to congratulate Year 10 student Mason Irving on securing a school-based carpentry apprenticeship with C.J.C.C., under the guidance of Charles Curcuruto – a proud Marist College Ashgrove Old Boy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Mason to gain hands-on industry experience while continuing his studies. It’s also a wonderful example of the Old Boy network in action, supporting the next generation of skilled tradesmen.

Giacomo Calabrese signs up as electrical apprentice with Mussi Electrical – Congratulations Giacomo!

We are excited to announce that Year 11 student Giacomo Calabrese has secured himself a much sought after school-based electrical apprenticeship. Giacomo has signed with Mussi Electrical, under the mentorship of Massimo – a valued industry partner and skilled tradesman.

This opportunity allows Giacomo to gain real-world experience in the electrical field while continuing his senior studies. It’s a fantastic step toward a future career in the trades and a great example of local businesses supporting our Marist students.

TAFE Queensland Holiday Workshops – A Fantastic Opportunity

TAFE Queensland is once again offering their ever-popular School Holiday Workshops – and this year’s program promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Running from Tuesday 1 July to Friday 11 July 2025, these hands-on workshops are open to students in Years 9 to 12 and will be held across various Brisbane campuses. Whether your interest lies in technology, the creative industries, health, trades, or hospitality, there’s something to ignite every passion.

Each workshop provides a taste of what it’s like to study at TAFE Queensland, while giving students the chance to connect with peers, explore career pathways, and receive a certificate of completion to add to their CVs. It’s a valuable and fun way to spend the school break!

Workshop Details:

• When: 1–11 July 2025
• Where: Various Brisbane TAFE campuses
• Time: 8.45am – 4.00pm
• Cost: $60 for a full day or $40 for a half-day
• Registrations close: 11.30pm on Tuesday 17 June 2025 (unless sold out earlier!)

What to Bring:

• Student ID
• Packed lunch and water bottle
• Parent/guardian approval required

Powerlink Apprenticeship Applications Now Open

Powerlink's 2026 Apprenticeship Program is now open! 

Opportunities are available across Queensland in the following streams:

• Substations - Electrical
• Secondary Systems - Electrical
• Secondary Systems - Communications & Control
• Transmission Linesperson

This is a competitive program with over 1500 applicants last year for around 100 positions. Strong communication skills and preparation (including a short video and group interview) are essential.

Eligibility: Must be completing Year 12 in 2025 or have already graduated. A Cert II in Electrotechnology is not required to apply.
