Annual NEST's Bake Sale

The Nossal Environmental and Sustainability Team (NEST) started the year with a bake sale held during the Nossal Swimming Carnival. The bake sale is the first step in us raising awareness about the club, as well as a way to raise funds to go towards achieving our environmental goals and raising money for environmental causes.

Our preparations began prior to the school term starting. We tasked creative members of our club to create cute posters advertising NEST's bake sale. We also put a call out for potential baker volunteers, and to our delight, we received enthusiastic support from NEST members who wanted to participate in baking. The baking session went off without a hitch, with everyone dutifully completing their tasks smoothly and in an orderly manner. Our efforts were rewarded with a large batch of beautifully made brownies and cake slices to present to the Nossal community during the swimming carnival.  Ms De Zylva also provided us with her unwavering support, and generously contributed her own baked goods, which widened our selection and give our buyers more to choose. The day of the sale exceeded our expectations. We sold all our baked goods in record time, and it was gratifying to know that everyone really enjoyed what we had all made together as a team. We were sold out after about two hours and we raised approximately $350.  We plan to donate a portion of the sum to a charitable organisation and use another portion to fund the NEST Summit which will be held sometime in Term 3. We are incredibly grateful to all the students and staff who purchased from us, and we would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to those who contributed to making this event a success.

Year 11

Container Deposit Scheme

The Container Deposit Scheme is up and running! This initiative was started last year at Nossal last year by Ms Bonham, and it has now been incorporated into NEST. We are pleased to announce that we have had our first waste management sort on Thursday lunchtime. It was an impromptu event, organised by Ms Nieva, and Nossal students and Ms Webster rallied behind our cause. Students volunteered to collect and gather containers from all bins and sort them into cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles and Tetra Paks. The benefits of this scheme will now go towards Nossal4Nossal. We plan collect containers daily, so please, please put your recyclable containers in the appropriately labelled bins. Thank you for all your support and continued donations.
