Year 2 Healthy Afternoon Tea

Ruby Spaargaren, Year 2 Classroom Teacher

Our Year 2 students have been learning about the importance of a balanced lifestyle during Kilvington’s Term 2 Health Unit by developing an understanding of nutritious food and what is needed for a healthy lifestyle.

Recently, the students took part in a Healthy Afternoon Tea to demonstrate their learning to their parents.

In preparation for the Afternoon Tea, the Year 2s made some delicious treats for everyone to enjoy. They applied procedural and math skills, and also showed their teamwork skills by working collaboratively in small groups.

Leading up to the event, our students created personalised invitations for their parents, designed a menu and made placemats!

It was great for the Year 2 community to come together and celebrate our students' learning.

Kilvington hosted The Fuse Cup esports competition over the last three days of term, playing Just Dance and Super Smash Bros against different schools across Melbourne whilst learning about balanced gaming, cyber safety and support organisations such as Kids Helpline.

Fuse Cup eSports Competition

Kilvington hosted The Fuse Cup eSports competition over the last three days of term, playing Just Dance and Super Smash Bros against different schools across Melbourne while learning about balanced gaming, cyber safety and support organisations such as Kids Helpline.

The Years 5 and 6 Fuse team learnt many new skills while competing in the Just Dance competition, including teamwork, perseverance and good sportsmanship. Congratulations to Dante Di Felice, who won the MVP award.

The Year 10 team, while not successfully moving beyond the round of 16, in Super Smash Bros, also thoroughly enjoyed the day of friendly competition.

Overall, it was a fantastic and new experience. We hope to do it again soon!

Year 6 ‘Kidprepneurs’

Amelia Oswald and Chelsey Li, Year 6

In Term 2, we've been exploring the topic ‘Kidpreneurs’ as part of our economics and business studies. Kidpreneurs are young entrepreneurs with big dreams who create an inspiring business.

As part of our studies, we were tasked with creating our own business proposal. We started by brainstorming creative ideas with a partner. Once we settled on our theme, we had two weeks to develop our business idea. To model a ‘real-world’ business environment, we also had to create advertisements and prototypes, preparing as if we were going to present our new ideas to the public.

On Thursday 6 June, we hosted a ‘Kidpreneur Expo’ where we invited our parents and other year levels to view our business proposals. Parents were given five voting slips to cast their votes in categories such as 'Best Business', 'Most Creative Business', 'People’s Choice Award', 'Best Expo Display', and 'Most Original Idea'.

As a cohort, we had so much fun building our ideas and sharing them with others. Otis Fifoot, Year 6, said that he really enjoyed explaining how his product worked. It was a great opportunity for us to practise our presentation skills and receive valuable feedback.

The project was a resounding success, and we are all incredibly proud of our hard work, creative thinking and entrepreneurial mindset.

Thank you to Mr Pellegrino and Ms Soler for making this exciting experience possible! Their guidance and support throughout the project were invaluable, and they inspired us to push our boundaries and think like true entrepreneurs.

Visit from the Mayor of the City of Glen Eira

Recently, we were fortunate to have the Mayor of the City of Glen Eira, Cr Anne-Marie Cade, visit our Year 6 students. She educated our students about the functions, challenges and goals of local government, and graciously answered their curious questions. Thank you so much, Mayor Cade!

Junior School Open Classrooms Day

The Junior School Open Classrooms Day was a lovely experience for our students. We were delighted to see the joy on their faces as they shared their learning and achievements from 2024 with parents, grandparents and special friends. Thank you to all who joined us for this special day!
