Art
Reflecting upon the school year, the Art and Technology domain has had an exciting year filled with events, workshops, and accomplishments. Collaborating with the Art and Technology team was a fantastic experience, especially in my first year at Healesville High School, where I received a warm welcome.
We welcomed two new teachers: Jacqui Godfrey and Richelle Hoogenraad. This resulted in two new electives: Visual Communication Design and Yarn. Year 7s enjoyed delving into crochet and French knitting with Jacqui and Cheryl, while Year 8s honed their drawing and design skills with Richelle.
Simon Cross enthusiastically embraced the new senior art subject, Art Making and Exhibiting. The Year 11 and 12 art students ventured to Tarrawarra multiple times to view and interpret artwork. The Year 11 media students and I ventured to the ACMI for Top Screens, where we watched the best Media productions from 2022.
Wood Technology teacher Paul Darlison shared technical skills through electives, resulting in impressive creations like candy dispensers and furniture.
Down at the Art Factory there was a wellbeing program run by Trent Patience where the students were able to paint, chat, listen to music and watch cartoons. I held some lunch time workshops including collaborative sculpture and jewellery making.
Our food teachers, Gayle Shelley and Shelley Morley supported students in creating delicious dishes that showcased an appreciation for cultures worldwide. Their catering for the art show was particularly commendable.
My favourite moment this year would have to be the Art Show. This provided students with a platform to showcase paintings, sculptures, photography, and digital creations, woodwork and food. I am so grateful for our vibrant creative community, I eagerly anticipate the exciting creations our students will produce in the future!
Have a happy holiday,
Jessica Dennis
