YEAR 10-12 NEWS
Term 1
Welcome back to our Senior school students and families for the 2024 school year!
It has been an overwhelmingly positive start to the year with all students engaged in classes and eager to learn! Congratulations to our Year 11 students for making such a smooth transition into the Blue and Yellow buildings and tackling the challenges of Senior studies head on!
Our Year 12 Students have started their final school year strong, utilizing class and study times effectively and seeking supports from our teachers and services! Let’s continue this positive momentum as we head further into the first term!
Upcoming events in the Senior School:
Thank you to our Senior School families for your ongoing support of our students in their final years at the College.
Lauren Marino, Sub-School Leader
Year 10 Immunisations will be held on Tuesday 20th of February and consent whether it is a YES or No must be sent to Barwon Health beforehand. For any parents needing a consent card there are spares located at the Student Services Office in the PAF.
Welcome to our year 12’s for 2024!
As you imagine, this is a big year for our students and can be at times very daunting. Most students will go through the full range of emotions as the year progresses, from excitement to frustration to being terrified or just plain feeling like giving up.
If you haven’t had a student go through VCE in year 12, it can bring on a feeling of hopelessness for parents as well. My key piece of advice is to be supportive and remind your child of their goals. VCE is more about working hard than being talented at school. Being well organised, having some sport/personal time is also a must to survive the year.
Most importantly, if you not sure, please don’t hesitate to contact me or any of the year 12 teachers – as we are pretty experienced at navigating through the year!
A quick reminder that our year 12 camp is on Monday 19th of Feb to Wednesday the 21st. The aim of the camp is to build the year 12 students into a supportive team for each other. We have some great sessions planned, including many guess speakers to help and support the students tackle 2024 and beyond. It will be a very helpful and informative camp, mixed with a lot of fun things as well.

It’s the start of 2024 and the Head Start program is kicking back into gear!
Jonathan Simpkin is the Head Start Coordinator for Western Heights and will be working with any Year 10-12 students looking to find the right school-based apprenticeship or traineeship across a broad range of career areas.
Whether it's traditional trades, agriculture, or green energy, Head Start provides students with the opportunity to start learning crucial work skills, all while completing their senior schooling.
If you want to learn more about the opportunities available through the Head Start Program, please speak to your careers coordinator to find out more.
