Leader of Pedagogy

The Leader of Pedagogy role will be shared this year between Natalie Mellowship (Years 7-9) and Jenny Roff (Years 10-12). As Leaders of Pedagogy within the College, we will continue to recognise a dedication to driving positive change in education. 

Continuing the work of Lyn Sharratt’s 14 Parameters of System and School Improvement, we believe that all students can achieve high standards given the right time and the right support. Starting this semester, all teaching staff will work in Professional Learning Teams based around their Key Learning Areas, and will be guided to implement a whole system approach of collaborative inquiry (Parameter 11) beginning with Data Informed Learning Sprints.

Data Informed Learning Sprints are structured, short periods of focused learning or improvement efforts guided by data analysis, generally lasting around three weeks. The process starts with collecting and analysing relevant data related to student performance, such as a sample of writing or performance of a skill. This data provides insights into areas of strength and weakness, helping educators identify specific learning needs for students. Teachers then design and implement targeted learning activities or interventions aimed at addressing the identified goals. These activities will include instructional strategies tailored to meet the diverse needs of students. Throughout the sprint, progress towards the established goal is monitored closely using a variety of assessment methods. Regular checkpoints allow educators to assess the effectiveness of the learning activities and make any necessary adjustments to optimise student learning outcomes. At the conclusion of the sprint, teachers will reflect on the effectiveness of the strategies implemented and the progress made towards the goals. Insights gained from this reflection inform future instructional practices and help refine approaches for subsequent learning sprints.
