Well with Alice

2023-2024

At the end of the year, we reflect and look ahead

Reflection is something we often do around the end of the year. We can do this in a way that positively influences our mental health.

Reflection helps to process events, it helps us be aware of what we feel and think and with that it can inform us on how to act.

Reflection can also inspire gratitude, if we choose to focus on the good.

As we near the end of the year, here are some questions to ask yourself and your family members:

-What have you learned this year?

-What was the biggest challenge this year that you have overcome?

-What was your favourite thing about this year?

-Who are you grateful for this year?

-Were you kind to yourself and others this year?

Looking ahead

At the end of the year we do not only reflect, we also look ahead to next year. We may be filled with excitement, we may be filled with fear. There are so many adventures awaiting! Thinking about our expectations and hopes can help us work through fears and can help us set ourselves up for success.

Here are some questions you could ask yourself and your family members:

-What are your hopes for next year?

-What is something you are excited about?

-What is something you are nervous about?

-How will you face challenges this year?

-What is something you would like to learn or get better at next year?

Reflecting on chaplaincy at RHPS...

This year I have had over 700 individual chats with students, staff and parents,

We have buttered countless pieces of toast at breakfast club,

I have been able to facilitate several groups of students learning social skills, coping skills and making art together.

I am so proud of those who have reached out for help and of all the progress they have made and I am so grateful to the parents and staff that entrust students to me.

As for next year, who knows what lies ahead! If I have learned anything in the last few years it is that we can't tell or control the future, we can simply embrace it! I am looking forward to facing many more challenges and making many more connections while deepening ones I already have.

Therefore:

Have a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Kind regards,

Ms. Alice Romijn

School Chaplain

Ps. On the last day of school there will be no breakfast club!
