Policies

Victorian government schools have many policies and plans to assist and guide operations as required by the Department of Education. Our policies can be found on Compass and our school website: https://gilgaiplainsps.vic.edu.au/ .

We welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our policies, procedures and practices. If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please email gilgai.plains.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

This week, we would like to highlight:

Attendance Policy

The purpose of this policy is to

  • ensure all children of compulsory school age are enrolled in a registered school and attend school every day the school is open for instruction
  • ensure students, staff and parents/carers have a shared understanding of the importance of attending school
  • explain to school staff and parents the key practices and procedures Gilgai Plains Primary School has in place to
    • support, monitor and maintain student attendance
    • record, monitor and follow up student absences.

Aboriginal, Learning, Wellbeing & Safety Action Plan

Gilgai Plains Primary School embraces the vision of the Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan and celebrates the culture, knowledge and experiences of First Nations Peoples. We are committed to creating and maintaining a school environment that empowers Koorie students to feel valued, respected and culturally strong. Our school has a number of measures in place to ensure our community acknowledges and appreciates the strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. These measures are outlined below.

Child safety and wellbeing at Gilgai Plains Primary School: information for families and the school community

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Gilgai Plains Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on Compass or our school’s website https://gilgaiplainsps.vic.edu.au/.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.
