Green Team News

After several days of spring rain and some sunshine, the fruit and vegetables in Brendan’s Garden have grown tremendously and are thriving. Many of the fruit trees are laden with fruit and some of the zucchini and cherry tomatoes are close to being ready for harvesting.

It was the final Green Team session for 2023 and so it was time to reflect on the year. Some of the Green Team members were asked to share their thoughts and feelings about being part of the Green Team and here are their responses:

Question: What tasks have you liked doing most in Brendan’s Garden?

Answers: Picking the vegetables; watering the plants; planting the seedlings; picking cherry tomatoes; digging up the potatoes; helping the younger students to plant the vegetables; eating the vegetables, especially the pumpkin.

Question: What have you learnt from being a part of the Green Team?

Answers: I learnt that potatoes grow in the ground; I learnt how to plant vegetable seedlings and what helps them grow; I learnt that mulch keeps the moisture in the soil; I learnt that pumpkin plants grow out of their garden bed and can take over.

Question: What’s your favourite fruit or vegetable?

Answers: I love sour things, so lemons are my favourite; I like strawberries, beans and potatoes are delicious too; I like capsicums and lettuce; sweet corn and tomatoes are so yum.

Question: What did you like most about being in the Green Team?

Answers: I liked working with Archer; I liked seeing the vegetables grow; I liked being outside and working with students from other classes; I liked picking the vegetables and taking them back to my class.

It has been a successful and rewarding year leading the Green Team  working on many projects in Brendan’s Garden. Stay tuned for more Brendan’s Garden updates in 2024.
