Good morning and welcome to this special assembly for Remembrance Day.
We acknowledge that Jesus Christ gave His life as the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
Remembrance Day is a day to remember all people who have served or died in war time or who have been part of peace keeping missions.
We would like to acknowledge the Indigenous soldiers who fought in past wars - defending their Indigenous lands as well as defending Australia.
The poppy is a symbol of Remembrance Day. Millions of poppies grew on the fields after the War ended.
Our Year 3 and 4 students have made these beautiful tributes which will be gifted to the Mount Evelyn RSL.
Tomorrow, on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour, they shall be honoured and remembered with one minute’s silence, but today, we will do the same.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We know You will remember Your holy promise, and look with love on all your people, living and departed. On Remembrance Day we especially ask that You hold all those who have suffered during war, and those who have returned scarred by warfare.
We lift up the conflict in Israel, Gaza and Ukraine to You, and ask that You place Your hands and feet in all the right places to bring a swift and peaceful resolution.
We remember too those who have acted with kindness and compassion and risked their own lives for their neighbour.
We give thanks to the people who are donating their time, medical supplies, food, and water to help the people caught in these wars.
Please help us to be generous to those living in these countries, as we are grateful to be living here in Australia.
We pray for the day when people of every language, race, and nation will be brought into the unity of Christ’s kingdom.
This we ask in the name of the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
