Japanese Newsletter Week 9

Recently one of our students asked me to guess what his dinner was for that night. I guessed sushi but he said ‘No! It’s udon noodles! We’ve got all the ingredients. We’re going to try cooking it for the first time tonight!’ This impressed me and made me so happy. This student tried udon noodles for the first time at our Japanese Soup Day and he wanted to eat it again at home. Experience can open your world; let you see something you had never known. This is why we should all keep on trying something new – simply giving it a go. I feel great pleasure every time our students share their stories like this!

Our Foundies have been working hard to learn body parts in their Japanese classes! We combined numbers and body parts last week and created wonderful looking monsters! Many understood different body parts when named as well as numbers on their dice in Japanese. Well done, Foundies!

Year 1

Year 1 students have been learning about a festival called Shichigosan. Girls (3yo and 7yo) and boys (5yo) have celebrations in November in Japan. We looked at the Kanji characters for the three numbers in the name of the festival and learned about some traditional clothing for the occasion. Families in Japan celebrate and wish for their children’s health and prosperity in the future. Year 1 students enjoyed looking at a Kimono and the special shoes during the class!
