Principal's Message

Term 2, Week 7

Hi Everyone,

Please can everyone sign up for QParents??  Please?  It will make your life so much easier!!  I just wanted to give a plug for QParents straight up!

Happy Chaplain Week to our wonderful Chaplain, Roslyn Tayler.  Our new Chappy has quickly won her way into our hearts with her kindness and support and we are so grateful  -  have a great week Chappy!

Choral Fanfare was apparently incredible and both choirs won GOLD!!!!!!  I am so sad I didn’t get to go.  Congratulations to all of our children involved and to their teachers, Mrs Kellie Wilson and Mrs Marianne Huxley.

Congratulations to all of those very deserving students who received STAR Awards on assembly last week.  I know how proud your teachers are of these children and no doubt you parents are beaming too.

The Senior Strings (with a touch of extraordinary percussion) were our entertainment on assembly and they did not disappoint  -  simply amazing!  Thank you kids and Mrs Weekes!  This week is a P-3 Merit Assembly and we have the Small Strings Ensemble playing!

Our fabulous Student Council announced Super Hero month on assembly!  There are so many wonderful things planned for this month.  Thank you so much to our Student Council, Mrs Sharyn Pinkerton and Mr Brett Perrier for making our school a better place!

Congratulations to a group of impressive young girls who received Life Member badges for their service to our library.  I cannot speak highly enough about this program or the students involved!  Thank you to our librarians Mrs Sauvage and Ms Roche for encouraging these great activities for our school.

We also heard who our Snap That Story competition winners were for Year 4-6.  Congratulations to these creative kids!

Coming up this week:

· Collaborative School Improvement group visiting Ironside SS  -  Wednesday 4th June

· Cricket Trials 10-12 year old girls  -  Thursday 5th June

· Rugby League Trials  10-12 year old girls  -  Thursday 5th June

· P-3 Merit Assembly  -  Friday 6th June at 9:15am

· Religious Instruction  -  Friday 6th June

On Tuesday we had a fire evacuation drill during eating time.  Parents & carers, feel free to reinforce with your children that in the event of a fire (very rare), you stay calm and follow the instructions of staff.

I want to encourage you to read each section of our newsletters, there are many noteworthy pieces of information.  I was looking at the Community News section last week and there was information on a service from The Smith Family to help families to save for school camps, which may interest many people.

I am going to include the ‘Supporting Your Beginning Reader’ document in my section and I will just explain in my video what that sounds like, just in case anyone finds it confusing.

All the best to those children who are trialling in the cricket trials this week and also the rugby league trials, I always admire people having a go, it is a great quality.

We are excited to be hosting our Collaborative School Improvement group here this week.  We will be talking through the direction that Ironside is heading in, engage in some learning in classrooms and look to our colleagues to give us some feedback.  We are very privileged to have this time with the principals of Ashgrove SS, Rainworth SS and Indooroopilly SS, as well as our Supervisor Evan Willis.

I will end this week with staff news.  Sadly we had Mrs Renee Graham finish as a teacher here at Ironside last week.  Mrs Graham has been teaching a year 2 class this year, job sharing with Mrs Simone Fitzgerald but Mrs Graham has been a much loved teacher here for much longer, over a decade.  Mrs Graham is moving to a school closer to where she lives, which is a wonderful support for her young family.  I want to thank Mrs Graham for everything she has done in her time for Ironside State School and wish her all the best  -  you will be missed Mrs Graham!  Mrs Fitzgerald will be teaching the class full-time for the remainder of this term and we are very grateful to her for doing this.

 Have a truly fantastic week!

Yours in Education,

Angie Kelly
