Connecting Classrooms to Community
At the heart of Humanities is a commitment to helping students understand the world - and their place within it. This year, our teaching and learning has centred on building meaningful connections between classroom knowledge and the communities, institutions, and histories that shape public life.
Whether investigating democratic processes, human rights, cultural identity, or economic systems, our students have been encouraged to see themselves not just as learners but as active participants in a broader social conversation. Across all year levels, Humanities has provided opportunities for students to engage with the values and challenges of real communities, past and present.
Excursions have played a key role in making this learning tangible. At the State Library of Victoria and the Shrine of Remembrance, students explored how war is commemorated and whose stories are preserved in public memory. A visit to the Holocaust Museum prompted reflection on injustice, resilience, and the importance of bearing witness to these events. At the Yakult factory, Business Management students saw how local production is connected to global markets, public health, and sustainable enterprise.
These experiences are more than excursions - they invite students to step into living histories, public debates, and the institutions that shape our society. In Humanities, we aim to educate and empower our students to think critically, act ethically, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
