Year 9 News

Ms McGloin

Year 9 Year Level Leader

This term has been very busy for the Year 9s at CSC, with excursions, Immersive electives, presentations, and Morrisby testing.

Our first excursion in CONNECT was a visit to the Cranbourne Botanic Gardens on Monday, April 28. Students worked in groups to complete the tasks and challenges set while learning how to negotiate time, deadlines, and different communication styles amongst the groups. They explored the space over 3 ½ hours and learnt about the natural resources and environment.

A key feature of the CONNECT program is our Immersive Electives. Students learnt about, participated in a taster session and submitted their preferences for the subject they wanted to work on throughout the term. These electives include Dark Histories, the Science of Survival, Tuck Shop, Primary Connections, AFL Legends, Design for Change and Wall Wizards. In these subjects, our students learn about relevant issues, participate in excursions and activities and develop their knowledge and skills in teamwork, resilience, communication and problem solving.

Students have enjoyed excursions into the city and our local primary school to work with the grade 6 students. Students are developing their own projects to design, create, and sell products for a charity and designing artwork for our building based on a brief provided by key stakeholders.

Pat Cronin One Punch Presentation

Thank you to the Wellbeing Team for organising the One Punch Presentation for our students. Students learnt the importance of regulating their emotions and were provided strategies to manage their feelings, particularly anger. They understood the potential gravity of impulsive behaviour from unchecked emotions.

Coming Soon

On Tuesday, June 17, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, Year 9 students, their parents, and families are invited to attend our CONNECTion expo in building A. We will showcase, celebrate, and share our progress in CONNECT and our Immersive Electives, discuss upcoming key events such as City Journeys, and address the importance of attendance, student growth, and using Compass. We will open the building up for families to see our space, work, and have a sausage sizzle. We look forward to seeing and working with you on the night.
