As part of their English Course this term, our Year 9 students are studying descriptive writing - specifically, how to write an engaging biography.

 

To incorporate real-world life skills, each student has been challenged to interview an adult of their choice as the subject of their biography.

 

The learning sequence has included various skill drills, such as email writing etiquette for organising the interview date and time, the difference between open and closed questions, active listening and questioning techniques for drawing out detailed responses from their interviewees, and how to be tactful and ethical if they happen to approach sensitive topics.

 

Many of our students have elected to interview their parents or carers, and we look forward to reading our community's rich and diverse stories.
