Term 2
What an exciting and busy term we've had in Grade 2! From splashing around in our swimming program to exploring crazy reactions in our chemical science experiments, there’s been plenty of learning and laughter. We celebrated stories during National Simultaneous Storytime, showed our sporty side at the Athletics Carnival, and warmly welcomed families into our classroom for a special Mother's Day afternoon. We’re so proud of everything the students have achieved and can’t wait to share some of the highlights with you written by our students!

"This term we read lots of books such as, George's Marvellous Medicine, Collecting Colour, The Story of Rosy Dock, Zoo, Chooks in Dinner Suits and The Truck Cat with really really fun activities.
Our classes have also been reading some class novels:
We loved them!
Our favourite book that we read was George's Marvellous Medicine. Our favourite parts were Chapter 10 when George's parents came back home to find Grandma sticking through the roof and a giant hen in the yard. It was funny when Grandma got pulled through the roof with a crane.
Our favourite activities this term were writing and drawing the chapter summaries for George’s Marvellous Medicine. It was fun to make a our own book and work on something over a lot of lessons. We also enjoyed reading The Truck Cat and doing the activities for National Simultaneous Storytime. Watching the video of the author reading the book was really fun."

"This term in maths we did lots of fun things. We played Greedy Pig and this is how to play you roll a dice and whatever number it lands on that's how many points you get. There is a magic number and if it lands on it you lose all your points and return to zero. We also played Rob the Nest using 6 hoops and a lot of mini bean bags. The aim of this game was to find the difference between our scores each round.
Our favourite activity this term was when we made cardboard arcade games! It took lots of hard work and lots of cardboard. It was really fun and the most common games that people made were bowling and soccer. Some of them broke when we picked them up to move them and we had to fix them! When we finished making our projects we practiced giving the correct amount of change to play our games. Our limit for how much our games cost was $4 and everyone got given $10 to spend."

"This term in Inquiry, we learnt about chemical sciences. Our favorite part of Inquiry this term was making Oobleck, a liquid and a solid substance. We liked it because if we punched it stayed really hard and smooth but if we softly and slowly put our hand in we could touch the bottom of the bowl. It was a really fun time!
Our best work was cutting up masks because we learnt about the four different layers on a video about masks and sneezing.
We did a waste management session where we got to sort things into different bins. Their names were Wally the red bin, Ruby the yellow bin and Ollie green bin, it was really fun!
We watched a video about different materials with plants, leaves, straws, and water plants. We liked it because a lady on a video showed us some interesting artefacts made out of natural materials like a man made a bowl out of a weed and another video about silly statues."

"This term on the computers we learnt how to add pictures to our Google Docs. We also learnt how to use Google Slides and we can now change the background, add pictures and make slide shows. We started using a new program called 99Math where we did quizzes about telling the time.
On Friday mornings we use Epic to read books on the laptops. Different books we like to read are Catbug, Cat Ninja, Area 51 and Diary of a 5th Grade Outlaw.
Our favourite thing to do on the laptops is play Dojo Island. We get our own little character monsters and we can explore the island together. We can also play games like hide and seek and zombie tag. You can also build your own things like houses and statues."

At the start of the term we did Swimming lessons! We had a good time and we practiced things like backstroke and doggy paddle. We had a different teacher every day. Our favourite part was jumping in the deep end.
On Friday afternoons, we have Fun Friday! We do blocks in Mrs Dellar's class and colouring with art hub in Mr Janssen’s class. We practice working together with others and following instructions."
