From the Classroom

Grade 5/6 Clay Coil Pots

Our Grade 5/6 students have been working with air dry clay to create their very own coil pots. This project has been a fantastic opportunity for students to explore form, texture, and traditional clay-building techniques.Using the scratch and score method, students carefully layered and joined coils of clay to construct their pots, ensuring a strong and stable structure. This technique not only supports the integrity of their work but also gave them a deeper understanding of how clay behaves and how important preparation is in sculpture. Each pot is unique, reflecting individual style and design choices.

Next week, students will use acrylic paints to bring their coil pots to life with colour and pattern. We can’t wait to see how they transform their sculptures with vibrant finishing touches.

Foundation Rainbow Fish

This week in Foundation, we’ve been diving into the shimmering underwater world of The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. The story has sparked wonderful conversations about kindness, sharing, and what it means to be a good friend. To bring the story to life, we’ve started creating our very own 3D Rainbow Fish artworks. Using paper plates as a base, students have begun painting their fish with bright, bold acrylic colours. Over the coming week, they will add decorative touches using coloured paper, paddy pans, sequins, and pom poms to make their fish sparkle and shine—just like the Rainbow Fish in the book!

Gerbil Adventure

The Year 4 students embarked on a unique and exciting incursion last week where they explored the fascinating world of gerbils! The experience blended hands-on learning with imagination and adventure. Students discovered fun facts about gerbils including what they eat, how they live and where they originated from. Students learned about the connection between gerbils and ancient civilizations like the Incas. Through interactive storytelling the students boarded an imaginary ship and sailed off on an adventurous expedition to find these curious creatures! This hands-on experience gave students a chance to interact with the animals, deepen their understanding and appreciate these tiny explorers. The highlight of the afternoon was, of course getting up close and enjoying some cuddles with the gerbils. A big thank you to Will (Year 6) and his family for making this incursion possible.
