Principal's Report

Dear Families,

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to the Young family on the safe arrival of Darcy Thomas, a little brother for Mycah and Amelia. Darcy arrived on Tuesday afternoon weighing 3354g.

DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY

Last Friday, ten students from Toolamba Primary School took part in the Division Cross Country. Each student put in their best effort and should be extremely proud of their performance.

A big congratulations to Amelia Rice (Girls 9/10 yrs) and Lenox Durward (Boys 11 yrs), who both finished 12th and have qualified for the Hume Region Cross Country. A special mention also goes to Declan Doller, who placed 18th in a strong and competitive field. Well done to all involved!

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

Yesterday, all the students in our school participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) event. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

There were over 22,046 people watching and listening to author Deborah Finkel, read her 2025 Shortlisted book 'The Truck Cat.' It was great to be a part of the event! Students also had the opportunity to watch Danny Snell (the illustrator) demonstrate how to draw a cat using simple geometric shapes.

BREAKFAST CLUB

We had a great turn out this morning for Breakfast Club. Thank you to Alison Rice and Cheryl Richards who helped out. Breakfast club will run fortnightly on a Thursday Morning from 8:15 am. Our next one will be on Thursday 5th June.

STAFF LEAVE

We are all looking forward to Bree's return on Friday so that things can get back to normal. Next week Sarah will be taking three days Long  Service Leave, Sharon O'Connell will be filling in for her.

BRAVEHEARTS

Next Tuesday, the Foundation to Grade 3 students will participate in the Bravehearts' Keep Safe Adventure' Program which  teaches children about personal safety skills using age appropriate language, songs and dance.

Bravehearts Ditto’s 'Keep Safe Adventure' Show is underpinned by the below principles of personal safety. An evaluation of the Ditto Show suggests that teaching young children these principles can help to increase resilience and reduce the risk of child sexual abuse, as well as other forms of abuse including family violence and bullying.

  • Differentiating safe and unsafe feelings

  • Recognising the body’s warning signs

  • Body ownership and that it is ok to say no

  • Helping children name public and private parts using anatomically correct names

  • Reinforcing that there is no secret that children cannot tell someone

  • What to do if you feel unsafe or unsure

These personal safety principles are distilled into three easy-to-remember ‘rules’ that are reinforced throughout the Show. ‘Ditto’s 3 Rules’ are:

  • We all have the right to feel safe with people.

  • It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.

  • Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it.

Have a lovely weekend,

Regards Filippa & Heather
