GILES - House in Focus

As we reach the midway point of our 2024 schooling year, it is a perfect time to reflect on the exciting changes, developments, and achievements that have unfolded for Giles in Term 1 and Term 2.

Welcome

I would like to welcome our 2024 Giles Captains: Livinia H and Hamish E, as well as our other Giles leaders. Livinia and Hamish are proving to be inspiring and exceptional role models for our younger Giles students. They are enthusiastic about leading Giles this year and have already shown great leadership and initiative with their organisation of Do it for Dolly Day. I would also like to welcome Mr Cameron Thompson as the new Giles 01 Home Room teacher. We cannot wait to see what he brings to our Giles team!

Term 1 & 2 Highlights

A proud moment for Giles was the swimming carnival. We may not have taken home the winning trophy this year, but we demonstrated admirable sportsmanship and were fierce competitors, as always. It was also pleasing to see so many of our Giles students cheering and supporting our swimmers. Well done, Giles!

Chevalier also raised funds to help support Project Compassion, Caritas Australia’s annual fundraising campaign. Whilst the whole school came together to raise funds, Houses were also encouraged to raise money. Giles 06 raised the most amount of money out of all the Houses with Giles 01 closely behind. Great job, Giles!

Do it for Dolly Day

Livinia and Hamish led this very important Giles initiative. On Friday, May 10th, the school remembered Dolly by participating in Do it for Dolly Day. Giles encouraged our student body to spread kindness by handing out affirmation cards to each Home Room, greeting our students in the morning with a smile, and handing out blue bracelets in honour of Dolly.

Looking Ahead: Athletics Carnival, Push-up Challenge, and CAPA Initiative

As we transition into the second half of the year, we are eagerly awaiting the Athletics Carnival. Preparations are underway and we are determined to do our best, cheer on our peers, and have fun. All Houses will also be fundraising for Push for Better Mental Health by competing in a push-up challenge.

An exciting whole-school initiative is also underway. Livinia and Hamish, along with our Giles Home Rooms, are working on a song and dance performance to showcase at our next whole-school assembly. Giles had their first rehearsal in Week 4. It was great to see our Home Room teachers and students learning the moves and lyrics to our song. Stay tuned for more!
