Art
In Term 2, students in Prep to Grade 6 have immersed themselves in the art of painting. They have explored colour theory and developed their brushwork techniques.
In week 4, Preps viewed pictures of flowers and followed steps to guide them in using different shapes to paint flowers for a beautiful Mother's Day artwork.
Grade 1/2 students have been exploring Koru art, a traditional Maori artform from New Zealand, which is inspired by the beautiful shape of the fern. Watching clips of how the fern grows and uncurls, students practiced drawing the spiral shape before beginning their fern painting.
Grade 3/4 students explored how motion and texture can be implied in artwork by using deliberate brushstrokes in particular directions. They created a "Crashing Wave" painting, inspired by Hokusai's - "The Great Wave of Kanagawa". Using Vincent Van Gogh's - "Starry Night" as an example of motion in artwork, students applied varying shades of blue paint in short brush strokes, following the direction of the wave to create the sense of motion. They then created a sense of texture to the "crashing" wave using their finger tips to make the bubbles.
Grade 5/6 students have been working on a botanical themed painting, inspired by the Australian artist, Bernadette Twomey. Using inspiration from Bernadette Twomey's abstract shapes and their own research on plants and flowers, they planned their botanical design. They used watercolour paints to create a background and are now in the process of completing their artwork using acrylic paint to fill the botanical shapes.
