3/4 Learning Community

We're following the Gleams!

It has been a big few weeks in the 3/4 Learning Community. We said goodbye and gave well wishes to Leah in her new role. And we welcomed our new 3/4D teacher - Sam Fleming. He has been getting to know the students and the learning community at EPS. Please come and say and hi and introduce yourself if you get an opportunity.

Literacy

In reading, we have continued our focus on informational texts through using non-fiction just right books to practise the comprehension strategy of inferring. We have looked for clues the author leaves to understand what is happening or to infer the author's message.

In writing, we have begun carefully typing and publishing our information reports about E.P.S. We have included interesting subheadings, images, maps and tables to incorporate non-fiction text features.

Maths

We have continued to look at multiplication and the strategies we can use to solve problems. We have practised showing our strategies on a thinkboard. We have also re-introduced and started Maths Masters in each maths classroom. We have been provided with our skills to be practised and weekly Maths Masters time in the timetable. We are very excited and enthusiastic about working towards their belts.

Inquiry

We have been investigating sustainibility through some of the challenges our planet is facing now and in the future. We have learned about ecosystems, deforestation, the world's climates and climate change. We will apply this knowledge to understand how these affect endangered animals. We chose 5 local Victorian animals who Zoos Victoria have identified as endangered and needing conservation help these are; Eastern Barred Bandicoot, Baw Baw Frog, Grassland Earless Dragon, Golden Rayed Blue Butterfly and the Malee Emu Wren. We got to choose which one we wanted to investigate and we have been learning about their habitat, diet and threats to be able to design a conservation campaign. We also plan to talk with zookeeers about these animals in our upcoming Zoo excursion.

Wellbeing

We have been learning about and practising using 'Ready to Learn Scales'. We need to think about how ready we are to learn and then take steps in getting ourselves up the scale. Our teachers have helped us use the language need to communicate how we are feeling and what we need to be in the right mindset for learning. The 3/4 Learning Community are using a weather scale as a visual in our classrooms to help us be ready to learn.
