Hello families of Kinross Wolaroi,
We hope you are all well as we are hitting the midpoint of the term! A reminder to students to keep on top of their homework and assessments in order to minimise stress over the following weeks. Week 3 was a fun filled week as the school celebrated Boarding Week! We are excited to have our two Head Boarder Prefects, Aimee Zell and James Cooper, discuss all of the incredible events that took place during Boarding Week last week:
This week was National Boarding Week, a time for boarding schools across Australia to come together and celebrate what it means to be a boarder. This year's theme was “what makes boarding tick”, and focused on individuals and groups that are at the heart of boarding.
From the Head Boarders
We have seen an activity packed week, starting on Sunday by creating our house gratitude
boards and writing gratitude letters to those supporting us in boarding. On Monday all the
boarders gathered together for a whole boarding photo and enjoyed dinner with their
teachers. Tuesday saw the inaugural boarders vs day bugs tractor pull, where the day bugs took the win. Wednesday we celebrated the boarders with a special boarding assembly and Thursday held the annual Year 12 boarder girls vs boys charity netball game where we raised money for domestic violence victims. The boys took the win 19-11.
This Monday we held a day bug vs boarders relay race in the main quad featuring a series of boarding related activities, once again the day bugs took the win for this activity. We concluded the week with boarders' chapel on Sunday.
Boarding Week is an opportunity to celebrate what is special about living in a boarding community, to thank those who support us, and to remind ourselves that boarding is an opportunity to grow, thrive and be challenged.
Mensline Australia is a free professional telephone and online counselling service offering support for men with concerns about mental health and the surrounding issues. Mensline is a charity that James Sheahan Catholic High School have raised money for and supported for many years. They kindly invited us to participate in their schools of Orange boys netball event. Kinross Wolaroi created a team of 10 boys who trained hard for the Cup, with the help of Claire Nelson, hoping to raise further awareness about the cause. The boys put up a good fight against Orange Anglican Grammar, Orange High and James Sheahan and played incredibly well. With a close call to make it into the semi finals the Kinross Wolaroi Team was unfortunately beaten at the last minute. The team was very grateful for the support of the Kinross Wolaroi students and the teacher in charge of the event, Mr Smedley, who took time away from their afternoon to support our team and the charity. The boys had a fantastic time and were proud to be involved in the charity.
We wish you all well for the following weeks and hope you have all had a splendid Term 2 so far!
Kind regards,
Halle and Ed
