Purdue Glee Club Choir Performance

On Monday May 20, we were fortunate to be joined by the incredibly joyful Purdue Varsity Choir from Purdue University, Indianna USA. Orange was the only inland stop on their international tour through Australia and New Zealand. Purdue Varsity Glee Club are considered the number one Glee Club in the USA and performs 30-40 times a year for community, state, national and international events. The 125 year old choir is made up of male students studying a wide range of different degrees at Purdue University. From the moment they took the stage, their joy, showmanship and incredible talent was evident.

Their discipline in phrasing, articulation and movement was extraordinary with exceptional detail given to tone quality and vowel sounds. The concert was over an hour long with not a single sheet of music in sight! The choir featured the full 70-strong choir whilst also featuring smaller barber-shop quartets performing a range of accompanied and a cappella repertoire from the 50’s to present day. There was plenty of laughter and energy as their sound filled the DPA auditorium.

To begin the evening, our three school choirs took to the stage. Koristers began the evening with a stunning rendition of a piece written by Australian composer Andrew Howes called Don’t Be Afraid which also featured the talents of the Thompson String Quartet and Anabelle Van Wyk on soprano saxophone. Vox followed with a beautiful performance of Performing May It Be from Lord of the Rings and then by a haunting rendition of ‘Us’ by another Australian composer, Ben Van Tienan performed by our senior Chamber Choir.

Thank you to our Choral directors, Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Lenton and Miss Anthony for preparing our choirs as well as the incredible accompanying talents of Mr Luke Moxey on piano and viola.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to the Eugowra Community Choir.
