Netball Report: Rounds 1-3

The first two rounds of the netball season were heavily disrupted by wet weather, but Round 3 finally saw all games go ahead in nicer, albeit colder, conditions.

The Juniors have started the season with great enthusiasm and determination. The 13A team has been outstanding with three consecutive wins, showcasing their excellent teamwork and skills. Despite mixed results, the 13B and 13C teams have shown resilience and a positive attitude, reflecting their dedication during training sessions. The 14A and 14D teams have both enjoyed strong starts, each securing two wins, demonstrating their hard work and focus on the court.

However, the 14B and 14C teams have faced challenges, with losses and washouts, but their spirit remains high as they continue to train hard and improve. The 15A team, with two consecutive wins following a washout, has displayed a commendable positive attitude and dedication. The 15B, 15C, and 15D teams have had a tough start, but their commitment to training and improving their game is evident.

The Seniors have shown a strong start to the season, with the KWS Sky and KWS Navy teams each securing two wins, reflecting their strategic gameplay and dedication to training. The Kinross Wolaroi 3rds and 2nds have also been impressive, bouncing back from early washouts to achieve back-to-back victories. The 1sts team, despite two washouts, managed to secure a win in the third round, showcasing their perseverance and hard work.

Conversely, the KWS Midnight, KWS Royal, and KWS Electric teams have faced early setbacks with losses, but their commitment to training and improving their performance remains strong. Their positive attitudes towards training are a testament to their determination to turn the season around.

Overall, the attitude towards training and games across all teams has been incredibly positive. Players have shown resilience, dedication, and a strong desire to improve, regardless of the outcomes. This collective spirit and commitment are setting a solid foundation for the rest of the season. Keep up the fantastic work, everyone!

Touch Football

Last Friday, seven girls who were selected in the ISA Opens and 15 and Under Touch Football teams competed at the NSWCIS Championships and Trials at the Hills Grammar School in Kenthurst.

We commend Charlotte Ivey, Lilly Clarke, Katie Ivey, Lucy Carney, Lucy Robb, Grace Hosie, and Minnie Whittle for their participation. While the ISA Teams did not clinch the Championship title, we are proud to announce that two of our girls have been selected to represent the CIS Teams for their respective age groups. Lilly Clarke (Year 11) will be part of the Opens team, and Lucy Carney (Year 10) will represent the 15 & Under category. Our heartfelt congratulations to both girls, and we wish them the very best of luck in the upcoming competitions.

Community support from the Triathlon Team

Kinross Wolaroi triathletes plus senior school runners won the Champion Schools trophy at the Orange Running Festival earlier this year. The prize was a cheque for $250. The team felt there was a worthy charity called "Cycling Without Age" that they wanted to pass on their prize money to. This charity had many volunteers at the festival so it was a chance for students to "pay it forward".

This week, representatives from the charity visited school to say thankyou for the donation. Students had the opportunity to go for a ride on the 'trishaw' and learn about the many people who benefit from the charity. It was a fun visit and something the triathletes hope to support in future years.

2024 WAS Cross Country 2024

It was a strong day of effort from Kinross Wolaroi School students, who demonstrated respect, sportsmanship, and dedication throughout the event. The outstanding performances across all age groups highlight the hard work and commitment of our athletes, who not only secured top positions but also supported and encouraged each other.

The boys' teams, from Under 12 to Under 17, showed remarkable prowess, with multiple top-three finishes and overall team success. The girls' teams matched this excellence, with impressive individual performances and consistent top-10 placements. Special recognition goes to the Under 18 boys for their exemplary behavior and assistance, setting a positive example for their peers.

Overall, it was a fantastic day out, reflecting the spirit and determination of Kinross Wolaroi School. The students' achievements and their ability to compete at a high level bode well for future competitions. Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and stellar performances.

Results Summary

The Under 12 boys delivered a stunning performance in their first-ever WAS Cross Country event. Gavin Fan, Marcus Pigott, and Tom Wass dominated the race, securing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively.

The Under 12 girls also had a remarkable debut at the WAS Cross Country. All the girls showcased their talent by finishing in the top ten.

Eddie McGilvray, after a conservative start, emerged victorious in his race. Demonstrating exceptional prowess, three of the top four finishers were from our school, with all runners finishing in the top ten.

Skye Napier, despite initially being in the top five, finished strong to secure a solid second place. All girls in her race ensured their spots in the top ten.

Ash Robinson achieved second place in his category, with Angus O’Brien and Samuel Commins taking 3rd and 4th places respectively.

Alice Dymock continued to impress with her sporting talent, finishing 1st in her race. Rahni Jarrick, Alloway Whittle, and Anna Childs rounded out the top four for Kinross.

Max Horne put in a valiant effort and finished second overall in his age group, closely competing with a strong runner from Scots All Saints'.

Lucy Reidy started strong but ultimately finished 2nd, succumbing to pressure from a Scots All Saints runner on her home track. All Kinross runners in her race finished in the top ten.

Toby Buckland extended his winning streak by leading from start to finish, winning his race. Angus Hunt and Fergus Whittle followed closely, securing 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Harry Dymock finished second in his race. In the girls' category, Xanthe Staniforth, Jemima Scammell, and Maggie Kirby finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectively.

Our senior boys exemplified great sportsmanship and served as excellent role models, providing help and support throughout the day.

Rugby

Last Friday night our girls kicked off our weekend of Rugby when they travelled to Bathurst Rugby Club to play games against Scots All Saints and Mackillop College. With a healthy number of parents supporting our girls put on a great show. The fitness work our girls have been doing was front and centre and it was inspiring to see how hard the girls were working off the ball to have an influence on the game. Sevens Rugby involves plenty of running and even when our girls were gassed, they still continued to work. A majority of results went our way and the girls coming home on the bus certainly earned their Maccas!

Saturday we welcomed St Aloysius' for our first home game. With amazing weather, a huge amount of support and some very keen young men, it was a tremendous day for Kinross Wolaroi Rugby. A majority of results went our way and all games were played in a tremendous spirit. A feature of the day was the longest 1st XV tunnel seen on Main Oval for a number of years. The support from the student body was relentless with chant after chant cheering for our boys. Our Rugby Club were incredibly active on the day running the canteen and the BBQ and we thank them for their incredible support.

Our girls have a break this weekend, but our boys will welcome Cranbrook on Saturday. With great weather expected we are once again hoping for a big crowd.

Cocurricular Wrap Up

Joe Priest

It has been a busy fortnight in the cocurricular world. Winter sport is in full swing now, with all teams finally getting to take the field or court this week. The weather has provided a couple of false starts for our netball and rugby players. The music department hosted the Purdue choir in the DPA, with our students attending the rehearsal performance. The KWS debaters and chess teams both have fixtures this week, and the representative scene has had girls’ rugby 7’s, touch football, netball, and hockey players out trialing for a spot in a NSWCIS team.

The weekend just gone was the first time this winter season that all our 1st grade teams have played. Well done to the Hockey, Netball, and Rugby teams, who had wins over the weekend. The first Men's and Women's footballers both had losses but are looking competitive this year.

The chess team competed in the first two rounds of the Western Chess competition. Despite their best efforts, the team lost both matches to Canobolas High and Orange Anglican Grammar School and have bowed out of the competition. Well done to the members of the chess team for giving their best and taking both games to the wire.

Congratulations to both Lucy Carney and Lilly Clarke. Lucy has been selected for the U15 NSWCIS touch football, and Lilly Clarke has been selected into the Opens NSWCIS touch football team. Four KWS hockey players attended the NSWCIS trials playing for AICES. Well done to Paxton Buckerfield, Abbie and Phoebe Lyons, and Chloe Provost, who were members of the AICES team that won the NSWCIS championships.
