Before, After and Holiday Care @ St Mary's
Hello Friends and Families,
We are so excited to share with you all what we have been getting up to at TheirCare these last few weeks. Further to this we are so excited to share with you some new updates about the upcoming Holiday Program.
Week 7 – ‘Sports Stars’
The children who attend TheirCare all seem to share a common love for sport in some form. Whether this is playing on their local footy team, playing soccer at school or simply playing tag at After School Care. It truly was the perfect theme for this week as it is already so common around the service. On Monday, the children made their very own sports themed bookmarks. They were so proud of these, and some children even opted to just tie them onto their bags as decoration. On Tuesday morning, we continued our fun by using LEGO to build a ‘Basketball Court’ and ‘Swimming Pool’. The children absolutely loved this activity and were so excited to show off their finished product. The fun continued into Wednesday when we played a round of balloon tennis, this experience alone stemmed from children’s shared love for the Bluey episode ‘Keepy Upies’. By Thursday we well untruly had the theme down and the children made their very own sports keyrings. We saw a range of designs with the main ones being Basketballs, Netballs and Footballs. It was interesting to see how the children allowed their creativity to take over this task. Friday was the night of the school DISCO so we didn’t have many children booked in for the afternoon however it was so fun to hear all the fun stories from the children this week about how much fun they had dancing the night away!
Week 8 – ‘Roughing It: Camping’
Many of the children at Their Care talk fondly of the times they go camping with their families. They seem to enjoy being outside exploring all that the natural landscape has to offer. Whilst we didn’t physically go camping, this week at the service we replicated what it would have been like if we did, whilst also incorporating some fun activities. On Monday, the children considered different bugs they would see whilst camping and used mini sequins to make a mosaic butterfly. The children demonstrated an ability to form a pattern during this task and these butterflies are now on display around the room. On Tuesday our camping themed fun continued as the children used their hands to replicate a fire pit. With red, orange and yellow handprints all over the paper, it is safe to say that the fires were ‘burning’. The fun however didn’t just stop there, on Wednesday the children got extremely creative and turned their own handprints into mini standing Cacti. During this activity the children’s personalities really came to light. They each gave their Cacti a name before also developing ‘special traits’ that made them different from other Cacti. For example, one child gave his Cacti a set of headphones. On Thursday, our camping fun continued as we made our very own Popsicle Stick Tents. The children used a wide range of colours for this task. Tomorrow we will end our Camping week by making our very own ‘Camping Name Necklaces’.
Sun Safety
Being in Term 2, we would like to reassure all parents and guardians that we closely monitor the Temperature and UV Rays before engaging in outdoor play and Hats are worn as required. Further to this we continue to ensure that sunscreen is always applied, if your child requires a specific sunscreen, please do not hesitate to let us know so that we can accommodate for this!
Holiday Program
We are so excited to announce that this Term’s Holiday Program’s theme is ‘Time Warp’. Bookings for this program are officially open on FullyBooked. We have some amazing excursions these Holidays whereby we will be going to the Melbourne Museum 3D Dinosaur Exhibition, Roller Skating, SuperPark as well as going to the Movies to see Inside Out 2! As always, there is also many ‘In House’ days with ranging themes branching from Science, Craft and Sports for the children to enjoy. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible!
Many Thanks,
Swaye and Ellie
