Level 3 & 4
Week 5, Term 2
🌱 LITERACY
This week in Reading, we will focus on Chapter 3 of our mentor text Storm Boy. Students will practise retelling key events and identifying important details to deepen their comprehension. They will also learn to find and use specific evidence from the text to support their written and oral responses.
This week in Writing, students will continue exploring Information Reports. They will examine the key features of this text type, including its structure, use of headings, and factual language. Students will apply these elements to plan and draft their own reports.
You can support your child at home in reading by asking them to retell key events from Storm Boy and explain why those moments are important, using details from the text. In writing, you can encourage them to share facts they’ve learned on a topic of interest and discuss them.
🌱 NUMERACY
This week in Numeracy, we will continue our focus on addition. Students will practise using formal written algorithms to solve problems accurately and efficiently. They will also complete and create worded addition scenarios to apply their understanding in real-life contexts. In addition, students will work on building their mental math strategies to solve problems with greater confidence and flexibility.
You can support your child at home by encouraging them to solve everyday addition problems mentally or on paper, such as adding items while shopping or tracking scores in a game.
🌱 CBL
This week in CBL, we will continue to explore our Big Idea of Diversity. Students will begin a five-session rotation in designated CBL groups, each delving into a different chapter of Australian history. Together, we will explore the cultural groups that have shaped modern Australia, including First Nations Australians, British settlers, Asian migrants during the Gold Rush, post-war migration from Italy, Greece and Germany, and more recent refugee communities. Through this journey, students will develop a deeper understanding of Australia’s rich and diverse cultural fabric.
You can support your child’s learning by discussing their own family’s cultural background and exploring stories or media that highlight Australia’s diverse communities.
Wellbeing
Due to a shortened week and alternative timetable, there will be no specific Respectful Relationships, Friendology or Cyber Safety sessions.
🌿 REMINDERS
🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.
🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
