Taking care of take home books

As you have noticed, we have invested in new take home decodable books that are now in circulation to take home.  We  urge you to assist your child to take care of these books as we unfortunately have already had to repair some. Students must keep their take home book in their book pocket as they take them to and from school.

📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics

Please see below our phonics focus for this week and our literacy focus. 

 

Grade One Students 

Grade One's will be completing lesson 56 focusing on the long vowel sound to o_e and 57 a long vowel review of all the sounds that have been taught.

Grade Two Students 

Grade Two's will be completing lesson 80 explicitly teaching the Australian 'er' and lesson 82 practising the spelling of 'er'.

 📖✏️Literacy

Mentor Text:  The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel 

 

The Truck Cat will be our mentor text for this week, this is also the story that is the 'national simultaneous story', by Australian Library Information Association, for this year. All Grade 1 and 2s will be watching the story during the simultaneous story time in their classroom on Wednesday. We will be using this text to revisit story elements, predicting and looking at alliteration within the story and creating our own innovation on the text. 

 

What can you do at home?

-Chat and notice any interesting nouns, verbs and adjectives around you 

-Ask when looking at stories if the story is fiction or non fiction and why 

-Ask comprehension questions about your child's take home book or a book you read together

-Predict what happens next in various stories that you are reading together

 

➕Maths

Grade One and Two students are focusing on 

 

What can you do at home?

-Continue to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10 orally when counting objects 

-Compare different numbers - which is bigger or smaller? How do you know?

-Engage with mathseeds (Grade One) or mathletics (Grade Two)

 

🌏 CBL - Diversity 

We will be sharing ways we celebrate special occasions in our family, students will be focusing on what they do during the event and why this is important. 

 

Wellbeing 

Respectful Relationships will continue this week and we will be looking at the lesson that focuses on strengths. Students will describe how to use strengths to be a good friend or family member. 

 

School Wide Positive Behaviour: We will continue to be kind, be safe and be a learner especially when playing outside during playtimes.

-Discuss games and ideas that you child can play outside 

-Brainstorm the language
