Grade 4
Literacy
This term, our Grade 4 students have been hard at work developing their literacy skills. They’ve been exploring the text Uncle Xbox, using it as a springboard to strengthen their sentence-level writing through engaging activities and thoughtful discussions. In addition, students have been learning how to write factual recounts, focusing on the colonisation of Australia and its lasting impacts on First Nations peoples. This important work has deepened their understanding of history while encouraging empathy and critical thinking in their writing.
Maths
In Numeracy, our Grade 4 students have been diving into the world of decimals as part of the Year 4 curriculum. They've been learning how to place decimals on number lines, use decimats to visualise tenths and hundredths, and rename decimals in different ways. These hands-on activities have helped students build a strong understanding of place value and the relationships between fractions and decimals, setting a solid foundation for future mathematical learning.
Integrated
In History, our Grade 4 students have been exploring the arrival of the First Fleet and Captain Cook’s expedition to Australia. They've been learning about the colonisation of the east coast and examining the significant and lasting impacts this had on First Nations peoples. Through rich discussions and historical inquiry, students are developing a deeper understanding of Australia’s past and the importance of acknowledging different perspectives in our shared history.
