Coffee Cup Disposal

– Miss Sarah, Anna and Amira - Sustainability Leaders

Did you know that over one billion coffee cups end up in landfill in Australia each year? Takeaway cups cannot be recycled in general recycling due to their plastic lining. We are now part of the ‘7-Eleven Cup Rescue Schools Program’ and have a new coffee cup disposal unit in the gym foyer near the coffee cart to solve this problem! (There is also one in the staffroom for school staff!)

If you forget your reusable cup, you can use these collection bins and help reduce our waste contribution to landfill!

How it works

  1. Used paper cups and lids are collected in the units.
  2. When the collection units are full, we will return them to our partnering 7-Eleven store for processing with an organisation called ‘Simply Cups’.
  3. Collected items are processed into upcycled products like outdoor furniture, wheel stops and garden beds.

Acceptable and Unacceptable Items

  • Acceptable: Empty used paper cups, lids. Any brand of paper cups are acceptable.
  • Unacceptable: excess liquid in sleeves, plastic cups and contaminated sleeves.
