Senior School

Week 4

The Year 5/6 cohort has been immersed in a diverse range of learning experiences over the past two weeks, demonstrating their adaptability and enthusiasm across multiple subject areas.

Literacy

In English, students have been captivated by the powerful personal memoir of Anh Do in "The Littlest Refugee". Through Anh Do'shumorous and moving stories, students have been exploring themes of resilience, family, and the search for belonging. This has not only fostered empathy but also provided a rich context for developing writing using the students own lives as inpiration.

Transitioning to a different genre, the students have also spread their wings, metaphorically speaking, by delving into the world of informative writing. They have been diligently researching the Peregrine Falcon, one of nature's most awe-inspiring creatures. Students are crafting detailed informative pieces, showcasing their ability to synthesize information, use precise language, and engage their readers with fascinating facts.

Numeracy

The Year 6 students have been strengthening their mathematical understanding with a dual focus on measurement. They have been converting metric units of length, developing their proficiency in working with the metric system. This practical skill is essential for real-world applications and problem-solving.

The Grade 5 students have been delving into the intricacies of fractions, exploring their various forms developing strategies for performing operations with like and inlike denominators. This foundational knowledge is crucial for building a strong mathematical base and for success in future mathematical endeavors.

Grade 5 and The Resilience Project

The Resilience Project is an educational program that focuses on building mental health and wellbeing. Last week the Grade 5's were to present some work that done during assembly.

The Resilience Project - Olive and Atanaz

In 5S we have been learning about appreciating and recognising the benefits of being grateful for the everyday items we have but that are often overlooked. Often, people focus on the negatives of an item, but forget to appreciate the simplest of things. For example, many students complain that they have to wear a hat at recess and lunch, but on hot days, it provides us with shelter from the sun and avoids us getting sunburnt.

In class, we were split into groups and went around the room to stick sticky notes on items we are grateful for and writing the reason why. For example, I am grateful for a pen and paper because I can write things down on it so I don’t forget things.

I am grateful for my school bag so I don’t have to carry all my belongings for school in my hands.

Our question for you today is: What is an everyday item that you are grateful for, that is often overlooked and the reason why.

To finish our TRP chat we hope that after listening you are now more grateful for what you have.

🏃‍♀️🏃 District Cross Country  🏅

Last Tuesday, students from across the district gathered at the beautiful Ruffey Lake Park for the annual District Cross Country event. With clear skies and a cool breeze, the conditions were perfect for running—and our students certainly rose to the challenge!

Representing our school with pride, determination and sportsmanship, each runner tackled the hilly terrain and winding paths with great effort.

A special congratulations to those who placed in the top positions and have now qualified for the Division Cross Country event—your hard work and dedication has paid off, and we’re excited to see what you can achieve next!
