Foundation (Prep)

Hello,

I hope everyone enjoyed celebrating Mother's Day last weekend with their loved ones. The students had a great time preparing special handmade cards and going shopping at the school Mother's Day stall. A huge thank you goes out to Jaime Noye and all of the parent volunteers that made it possible for the children to enjoy this experience. It was also wonderful to see so many families enjoying a special breakfast together. Again, this wouldn't be possible if it weren't for Mr Webber and the awesome team of Dads assisting, so thank you very much!

English

We have introduced the new letters, Ollie Otter /o/, Cody Camel /c/ and Danny Dingo /d/. Students continue to review the letters we have learnt so far (m, s, t, a, p, i, f and r) and practise word building (cap, dot, cat, mop, etc). The children have also been introduced to some high frequency words to assist them with reading and writing captions and simple sentences.

Prep C has had a fabulous response from parents/carers to assist with our Parent Reading Program. This is a valuable program that offers the students an added opportunity to read with an adult one-to-one. Thank you again to our school community for your support.

Maths

This fortnight we have completed a unit on Patterns. We looked at patterns in Aboriginal artwork and then the children were encouraged to have a go at making their own dot paintings. The students created patterned snakes to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts we have covered this term. The children were then asked to explain their understanding by identifying the core of their pattern.

We continue to practise counting, writing numbers and have started to play some group games. The games are a great way to teach children how to move a particular number of moves, take turns with their peers and understand the concept of chance.

Happy Friday!

Mrs Callaway
