Religion

In our Religion classes lately, we've been exploring the story of Easter. We've learned all about what happened and the special symbols that help us remember this important time. One of these special symbols is the Paschal Candle. You might have noticed this big, beautiful candle in our church. It's not just any candle – it's a very important one!

The Paschal Candle is lit at every Mass during the Easter season, which ends in line with the end of Pentecost on the 8th of June. It reminds us of some very important things and shines brightly, just like Jesus, who is the light of the world. It also reminds us of the new life and hope that Easter brings.

English

In our Writing lessons, we have been learning to write information reports. We've embarked on a fascinating exploration of the First Fleet, the eleven ships that sailed from Great Britain to Australia in 1788, carrying not only convicts but also sailors, officers, and essential supplies for establishing a new colony; we've learned about the arduous months-long voyage across vast oceans, the different roles of the ships, the reasons behind the transportation of convicts, and the challenging conditions of daily life experienced by all those on board, piecing together a picture of this pivotal moment in Australian history to share through our informative writing.

Mathematics

In Stage 2 Mathematics, our current exploration into 2D shapes began with an engaging hook designed to activate prior knowledge and immerse students in the new topic. This introductory activity involved watching "Mr. Squiggle," where students were challenged to transform his abstract lines into recognisable 2D shapes. Following this creative exercise, they articulated their shape constructions using precise mathematical language, incorporating terms such as "parallel lines," "number of sides," and identifying if a shape was a "quadrilateral" or contained various other 2D shapes. This initial engagement effectively gauged existing understanding and set a strong foundation for deeper learning in the unit.

PDH

In PDH (Personal Development and Health), we've been learning about resilience, which helps us bounce back from tough times. We also learned about having a positive mindset, which means thinking positively. We discovered persistence, which is about not giving up and keep trying! Students have had fun acting out different scenarios with roleplaying to help us practice these important skills. The photos below show Mrs Whyte and students working together in teams to untangle themselves in the Human Knot challenge.
