BBPS Life

Maddie, Penelope, Pippa and Esme

Prep

We have been learning about filling each other's buckets - being kind. In the morning we are really good at changing our books in our reading folder, working on our teenager numbers using tens frames, and practicing our letters and numbers on whiteboards.

Grade 1 and Grade 2

This week Grade 1 learnt about 'igh' - "we can read and spell lots of words like high, sigh, light, knight, headlight, lightning, lighthouse."

Grade 1 and 2 have begun learning about land animals - their biology science focus for the term - "we've been reading books about different animals and comparing their features".

Grade 2 have loved doing lots of tricky equations for addition and subtraction. And playing Domino Flowers and Get out of My House to practice.

The fszl rule explained - "Don't forget to double the letter if the vowel before it makes a short sound - like hill, hiss, buzz, fluffy."

Grades 3 and 4

The Hub have been learning about all sorts of graphs, "like the ones where you use tallies and then join the dots - line graphs".

They began their weekly STEM workshops and are super excited about the starts of their designs and the robot battle to come - watch this space, we hope to invite our families in to view the big challenge.

They have also been adding description to their writing by using their senses and are learning about homophones - "words like by and buy that sound the same, but are spelt different and mean different things".

Grades 5 and 6

Our senior students are delving into important concepts around colonisation and the stolent generation through a rich mentor visual text - Rabbit Proof Fence.

They loved the start of Enrichment@BBPS - and appreciated getting the freedom to choose a topic area of interest, the opportunity to work with different teachers, and enjoyed being in multi-age 5/6 class groups.

Artist in Residence Workshop

As part of the Visual Arts program throughout Term 2 the Grade 5 and 6 students will take part in a two-hour small group gel printing workshop with practising Artist, Trudy Rice. Students will learn the gelli plate techniques that involve using a variety of materials and methods to create unique prints using coloured inks. This includes using items including stencils, natural foliage, printing objects and inks to create interesting effects. They will explore techniques including layering prints, mixing colours and using water to soften edges.

As an Artist Trudy’s art reflects the layered beauty of nature, capturing the shifting light, delicate foliage, and movement of the landscape through solar plate etching, monotype and collagraph. To learn more about Trudy’s amazing art you can visit her website: https://trudyricecollection.com/

Nikita "I loved the workshop because I got to make whatever I wanted. I used string to create a pattern and then I mixed red and orange with white and made a pink colour, which i applied to the gel plate and then the string. I was not expecting the results to be as good as they were - it was a pleasant surprise. I tried 5 different prints and I was really happy with 4 of them. My favourite one was how I made a beach landscape using white for the foam on the waves, blue for ocean and yellow for the sand.”

Harry H "There was stuff that looks like glass but it was gelli, and you could put things like leaves, string, and doilies on it and paint and then put the paper over the top and press it down and then you can take the paper off and see what you created. You could mix the colours to see what colours you could come up with. I enjoyed mixing the colours. I used red, yellow and orange, and then blue and green and put them on top of each other. I thought it was cool how you could have two completely different colours and they could still look good together. "

Easter Raffle:

A huge thank you to our Parent Association - in particular our Prep and Grade 1 volunteers - for our generous prizes at this year's Easter Raffle. What a way to end the term!
