Emilia, Charlotte and Lily bringing brightness to BBPS
Welcome back to a new and exciting term at BBPS! We hope all our families enjoyed a restful holiday break and are ready for a term packed with learning, creativity, and celebration.
Term 2 is off to a jam-packed start.
1st of May, Hats Away - students are no longer required to wear hats outside, as per our SunSmart Policy. This policy is currently being reviewed by School Council, and will be shared with you in the coming weeks.
Special Performance – Robina High School Band: We were incredibly lucky to kick off our term with a vibrant musical performance from the Robina High School Band, visiting us all the way from Queensland! Thanks to Sally Wickes for organising this opportunity.
ANZAC Day Assembly: Our school community came together last week to mark ANZAC Day with a moving and respectful assembly led by our wonderful Grade 4 students. The assembly reflected the spirit of remembrance and gratitude, with our students demonstrating maturity and understanding of this important national day. A special thank you to our Community Captains, who proudly represented BBPS at the Hampton RSL service.
Staff Curriculum Day – PhOrMeS Spelling: BBPS staff engaged in professional learning with our network school St Kilda Park PS, diving into the PhOrMeS spelling curriculum, a structured and evidence-based approach to teaching systematic synthetic phonics. This professional development will support consistent, high-quality literacy learning across all year levels. Our Junior School are already actively engaging with the curriculum; and the learning from Monday supports our middle school commitment to Spelling Mastery; Grade 5/6 teachers built their knowledge and understanding of the role of morphology and etymology within our reading curriculum.
Curriculum Launch – beyond English and Maths!
Our Grade 3/4 students have begun their weekly STEM Inspire Robotics workshops! Through hands-on workshops, they’ll explore coding, problem-solving, and design thinking in exciting new ways.
Meanwhile, our Grade 5/6 students have begun Artist in Residence workshops – a fantastic opportunity to express themselves creatively while working with a professional artist in preparation for our Art Show later in the year. Thanks to Georgie Hellier for overseeing this initiative.
Enrichment Program Launch – Gr 1 to 6: We are also thrilled to officially launch our Enrichment@BBPS program this term! Running across Grades 1 to 6, students engage weekly in a learning pathyway linked to an identified area of interest (Thanks to our Student Agency captains who surveyed our students!).
Grade 1/2 will be participating in an Enrichment Day as part of Education Week, engaging in a range of workshops designed to build critical and creative thinking.
Grade 3-6 will participate in a series of 6 workshops throughout the term, faciliated by our classroom teachers, in a particular subject area. From advanced maths challenges to creative writing and beyond, it’s all about igniting curiosity and deepening learning. Check out Leadership at BBPS for further details.
Staffing update
Congratulations to Megan Craig, who has been appointed Assistant Principal for one day a week, to support us with our shifting roles in leadership. Megan will continue to oversee the Disability Inclusion Funding program, along with student learning needs and IEP processes.
Claire Paitaridis has returned to her role as Megan Craig’s teaching partner in 2PC.
And we warmly welcome Naomi Beales back to BBPS, returning from family leave, back into the Prep team.
Term 2 is off to a brilliant start – thank you to our students, staff, and families for the energy and enthusiasm you bring to our school community each day.
