Year Four - Spotlight on Learning
Jericho Community
Dear Families,
This week many students participated in the National Walk Safely to School Day. It was great to see students getting involved with the initiative that promotes more sustainable transport choices. In English, students began reading our new class novel ‘Uncle XBox’ and developing their skills in expanding their sentences when writing. This week our Year 4 community highlighted their learning across the curriculum in this week’s School Assembly. We hope that you can access the assembly on YouTube.
Religious Education Focus
Next week students will be delving into the hierarchy of the Catholic church and how leaders such as the Pope are chosen through the Papal Conclave.
English Focus
We will continue to read ‘Uncle XBox’ and complete grammar, vocabulary and comprehension tasks related to the text. Students will continue their factual recounts about the First Fleet and settlement in Australia.
Mathematics Focus
Students will begin exploring measurement and how perimeter and area are measurable attributes of two-dimensional shapes.
Integrated Studies
Students will be continuing their learning in the area of Civics and Citizenship. Next week’s focus will be on rights and responsibilities in the community.
Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR
Students will continue the next topic of Positive Coping with a focus on ‘Coping when we are feeling strong emotions’. Students will explore how their emotional responses can be stronger or weaker, and practise using words that can help them describe the intensity of different emotions.
Auslan Focus
Students will be reviewing the signs they have learnt in units 3A, 3B, 3C and complete a mid-cycle progress check.
